LOBSTER Rinint-Ifl

Russian Tea Room is what it
has been cracked up to be ... Very
elegant and very expensive ...
Tourists and affluent New York-
ers enjoy its ambiance, service
and food ...But, continental would
be more the kind of fare it serves,
although some Russian dishes,
like hot borscht, are big favorites
... However, if somebody want-
ed an omelet or bagels and lox
they can get that, too.
MARK RIDLEY admits it's a
takeoff on a Palace suite or box
at the Silverdome, but the novel
idea at his Comedy Castle in Roy-
al Oak is getting a lot of attention
... A company can buy a four-top
table of their choice for a year at
$1,250 per person ... Plus this,
he'll give an additional 200 pass-
es for two ... and a backstage au-
tograph and photo session with
his headliner.
Mark is personally handling
all accounts himself (542-9900)
... "And if you order before mid-
night, we'll even throw in this set
of Japanese knives that can cut
through steel, then perfectly slice
this juicy tomato. Sorry, wrong
ad."
CONGRATS ... to Helen and
Morris Weiss of Zeman's Bakery
... on their 50th anniversary ...
celebrated with a luncheon by
their children at Young Israel of
Southfield.
DISA 'N DATA ... Sherry
Margolis, WJBK's wonderful
news gal, will be mistress of cer-
emonies for a fun evening, Nov.
3, at Ritz Carlton and Fairlane
Plaza ... The black-tie event be-
gins at Fairlane, 7 p.m., with
cocktails and hors d' oeuvres by
local dining spots and chefs, and
entertainment ... Dinner and live
auction, dessert and dancing fol-
low at the Ritz Carlton, 8 p.m.
$175-per-person tickets can be
gotten by contacting Ann Peters
at Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,
524-2873.
Eighth album by noted local
pianist David Syme, Missing You,
has been released ... and avail-
able at Harmony House, Dear-
born Music, Blockbuster Music
and Musicland ... Master Som-
melier Madeline Triffon, director
of wine for Unique Restaurant
Corp., was one of three honorees
at the recent 40th anniversary of
"Women Of The Vine" dinner in
New York ... Jaimie Clayton,
daughter of Mel and Diane Clay-
ton, now has a master of arts in
counseling degree from Wayne
State University to go along with
her B.A. in English from Uni-
versity of Michigan ... She is em-
ployed as a primary therapist
with the Judson Center in Royal
Oak.
Sweetwaters Bistro on Cass
Lake Road in Keego Harbor be-
gins lunch again Nov. 1, when it
will also become a seven-day-a-
week dinner operation ...
Daniel's dining spot in Royal
Oak opens for lunch as of Nov. 7
... Co-owner Daniel Kozak is still

boss chef, with Basil Kavadas,
formerly of Rugby's at the
Townsend Hotel, on board as his
executive chef ... It's crab season
and among the best ones around
are at Dan Dunsky's Fran
O'Brien's Maryland Crabhouse
on Opdyke in Auburn Hills ...
Wendy Eisenshtadt (Jeff) is only
28 years old, but with quite a
promotion to vice president of
portfolio investments at Michi-
gan National Bank ... She ana-
lyzes places for MNB to invest
its money.
The crazy ideas of Marvin
Yagoda now include a Houdini-
alike for his Oct. 28 Halloween
Party at Marvelous Marvin's
Museum on Orchard Lake Road
... A guy will hang upside down
from the ceiling and hopefully
get out of a straight jacket ... Any
day of the week can be reserved
during a two-month-or-more pe-
riod and downtown Detroit em-
ployees are picked up for lunch
and returned back to work at
Carl's Chop House on Grand
River.
HENNY YOUNGMAN re-
turns to the local scene with his
fiddle and one-liners, Nov. 12, 13
and 14, at Jack's Waterfront
Restaurant on E. Jefferson in St.
Clair Shores.
While here years back, Henny
would sometimes stay with his
uncle, Max Chetkin, who used to
say that his nephew had mel-
lowed with age.
But like any fine bottle of
champagne, he exploded if you
tipped him the wrong way ... We
never wanted to be the butt when
Henny blew his cork.
"Where you from?" Henny
asked a would-be heckler one
time at the Roostertail ... "Tay-
lor," was the reply ... "Well," said
Henny, "there's a bus leaving, get
under it" ... To one group of an-
noyers, he ripped, "Don't move, I
want to forget you just the way
you are."
To another he knifed, "Some
people bring happiness wherev-
er they go; you bring it whenev-
er you go" ... To a pest, "There's a
pair of shoes with three heels in
them."
Henny loved to make his wife
a Youngman accident victim ...
"My wife," he crooned, "has a
slight impediment in her speech.
Every once in a while she stops
to breathe" ... "My wife," he said,
"has her hair cut in a pet shop"
... "Her hair color is changed so
often she has a convertible top"
... "And when she goes to bed she
packs so much mud on her face,
I say, 'Goodnight, swamp."'
Henny says he stayed in one
hotel where the room was so
small the mice were hunch-
backed ... "I had a room and
bath," he bragged, "but they were
on separate floors."
Henny Youngman is a legend
... You'll want to see him at Jack's
Waterfront Restaurant ... Call
