Harold Heller:
A Man For All Seasons

Harold Heller, 82, of Southfield, died Oct. 10.
He served in the Army Air Corps in World War
II. As a youngster he aided his mother who took
in washing; he then moved up to work in the
garment industry. To support his meager in-
come he got a job as a caller at Radio City Mu-
sic Hall, then as a barker at a theater at Coney
Island. In the 1950s, Mr. Heller managed two

worth of business, or more, in 10 successive

Oak Park, died Oct. 5. Mr.
Alpert is survived by his wife,
Helen; daughters and son-in-
law, Pamela and Ronald

Wellesley Hills, Mass.; sister,
Ruth Boyer of Wooster, Mass.

ELAINE AXELROD, 57, for-
mer Detroiter of Boca Raton,
Fla., died Oct. 4. Mrs. Axelrod
was the loving daughter of the
late Morris Pikstein. She is sur-

Huntington Woods; sons and
daughter-in-law, Michael and
Kathy of Lake Mary, Fla.,
Randy of Boca Raton; daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Sheri and

ALICE BERKOWER, 92, of
Southfield, died Oct. 6. Mrs.
Berkower was the beloved wife
of the late Saul. She is survived

Dollar Round Table; he later became a life
member. In Grand Rapids, he was a past com-
mander of the Jewish War veterans and vice
president of Congregation Ahavas Israel. His
other affiliations included the National Federa-
tion of Jewish Men's Clubs, Inc. and B'nai
B'rith, of which he was a gold member. He be-
longed to the Grand Rapids Association of Life
Underwriters and the Grand Rapids Variety
Club as well as being a devoted supportter of
Youth Commonwealth.
Mr. Heller is survived by his wife, Anne;
daughters and son-in-law, Jacquelyn of South-
field, Carole and Barry Kaplan of Milford; son
and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Ronna of
West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Jason, Risa
and Melissa Heller. Interment at Beth El
Memorial Park. Contributions may be direct-
ed to Alzheimers Association, 17220 West 12
Mile Road, Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48076.

Mrs. Cantor was an artist and

daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert

SELMA DIAMOND, 79, of
Farmington Hills, died Sept.
24. Mrs. Diamond was a career
teacher with the Detroit School
System for over 30 years. Mrs.
Diamond was a graduate of
Wayne State University with a
master's in education and li-
brary science. She was a life-
time member of Hadassah,
member of Brandeis and the
National Council of Jewish
Women.
For 54 years, Mrs. Diamond
was the beloved wife of the late
Simon H. Diamond. She was
also the dear sister of the late
Harry Meyers and the late
David Meyers. She is survived
by her daughter, Faybeth of
Mill Valley, Calif.; granddaugh-
ter, Rebecca Diamond; brother-
in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack
V. and Rose, Arlene Meyers
and Dorothy Meyers. Inter-
ment at Beth El Memorial
Park. Memorial contributions

BERNARD DICKSTEIN, 87,
fomerly of Flint of Tuscon,
Ariz., died Sept. 30. Dr. Dick-
stein graduated from Flint Cen-
tral High School and from the
University of Michigan Medical
School. He continued in active
practice of medicine as an aller-
gist until his death. He was
board certified in allergy and
immunology and had been hon-
ored by the Pima County Med-
ical Association for his 50 years
in medical practice.
