Jerusalem — Israel is the world's
second- highest growth market
for plastic and rubber sales, the
Manufacturers Association re-
ported. The results are based on
figures published by the world-
wide plastic and rubber associa-
tion.
Israel registered a 19.1 per-
cent growth in sales in 1994, as
plastic and rubber sales in-
creased to $2.2 billion last year.
Hungary registered the highest
growth worldwide, up 21.5 per-
cent from the previous year.

nounced it has purchased 20 per-
cent of Israel Breweries.
The Danish beer manufactur-
er refused to disclose the sum
paid for the transaction.
Israel Breweries just complet-
ed construction of a new brewery
in Ashkelon for $32 million. The
plant was established in cooper-
ation with the Central Bottling
Company and will manufacture
Carlsberg and Tuborg beer.
The Central Bottling Compa-
ny has imported Carlsberg and
Tuborg since 1992, during which
time the two brands' market
share has increased from under
5 percent to 21 percent.
According to Carlsberg, the av-
erage consumer drinks about 15-
16 liters of beer per year, a
relatively low figure compared
with world averages. In the last
three years, however, annual con-
sumption has increased by some
10 percent.
