Families are invited to the an-
nual community-wide prepara-
tion and celebration of the New
Year, "Apples & Honey and lots,
lots more," on Sunday, Sept 17,
1-3:30 p.m. at the Agency for
Jewish Education. Sponsored by
the Agency for Jewish Educa-
tion's Jewish Experiences for
Families and The Jewish News,
the afternoon will include a va-
riety of hands-on holiday work-
shops, entertainment and
activities for children of all ages
and adults.
Participants are invited to
hear the music and stories of
Chawtauqua Express at 1:30
p.m. and 2:30 p.m. In addition,
the JCC New American Inter-
generational Choir will perform
Russian and Jewish songs at 2
p.m. Children 11 years of age
and older are encouraged to at-
tend the shofar blowing work-
shop at 1:45 p.m. or 2:45 p.m.;
Fred Goldenberg will teach the
techniques. Instructional tapes
and shofars will be available for
sale.
During the Shofar Factory
Workshop, children and adults
will have the opportunity to
make their own kosher shofars.
A limited number of shofars will
also be on sale. The Bee Man also
will return this year with his live
bees and beeswax holiday can-
dle rolling. Other workshops dur-
ing the program include a Yom
Tov Flower Arranging session
and Make a Lulav Shake.
New to this year's Apples &
Honey program will be the A-
mazing Maze. Attendees will
walk through the twists and
turns of the giant maze on a
journey through the new year.
The event is held in coopera-
tion with many of our communi-
ty's congregations and
organizations. There is no ad-
mission fee; however, partici-
pants are asked to bring food
stuffs to help feed the hungry.
For information or to pre-reg-
ister for a workshop, call the Jew-
ish Experiences for Families
office, (810) 354-1050.
