Clarence House silk-satin fabric with black
moss fringe. Antique Chinese accent ta-
bles stand between the chaises. Everything
rests on a custom-made, hand-woven Stark
rug of ivory wool in a high/low stripe.
A large fireplace dominates the wall be-
hind the chaises and is constructed of Ab-
solute black granite with a surround of Porto
Oro marble and black granite fluting.
Above, a mirror reaches to the ceiling. The
mantle is topped with Italian hand-blown
crystal candlesticks and an antique etched-
glass urn resting in a contemporary brass
and bronze base.
An 8-foot-long French console in an Old
World crackle finish, with a correlating mir-
ror above, stands across from the fireplace.
The mirror is flanked by two brass candle-
stick lamps. A porcelain tub basin is used
as a floral centerpiece. Across the room is
a large coffee table in black and gold Porto
Oro marble in a black granite frame.
Against the window are two large chairs
of black mohair with carved-leaf cream
crackle-wood frames. "I had a lot of con-
cerns about the 'throne chairs,' " says the
wife. "We were in Chicago, and we walked
into a showroom. Susie saw the chairs and
she wanted them, and we just looked at
each other. We were really trusting her vi-
sion.
"You can't isolate an item," comments
Winton-Feinberg. "I look at the entire scale
and envision the entire room."
Two rolled-arm sofas with dressmaker
skirts in a tone-on-tone ecru geometric print
sit on either side of the "throne chairs."
The sofas are flanked by low brass and glass
pharmacy lamps. On either side hang a pair
of Miros in black and white.
The powder room features a gold sink,
with gold fixtures set into black granite
counters. The walls are covered in a hand-
painted black wallpaper with gold mottling.
An antique etched- glass vase is frosted with
a black gold leaf trim.
In the family room, a black and camel
chenille sofa sits beneath a Picasso litho-
graph. The walls are covered in a camel
silk. A custom black-ash console topped
with a custom-made bronze lamp sits next
to the sofa. An accent chair in wool has a
camel and black leaf pattern. The two-
tiered coffee table is of Newton Poli gran-
ite with a black inlay reveal.
A wall unit, designed by Winton-Fein-
berg with Vogue Furniture, is in curly
maple with black polyurethane. Its detail-
