Partners in Torah.
This course is open to men and
women interested in learning
about Judaism on an in-depth lev-
el. Each participant is matched
one-on-one with an experienced
study partner. Torah study topics,
including Chumash, Jewish phi-
losophy, Jewish law, Talmud, and
prayer, will be explored. A special
High Holiday enrichment pro-
gram is also being offered. The pro-
gram runs 8-9 p.m. on Tuesday
nights at the Yeshiva Beth Yehu-
dah. Pre-registration is required.
There is no charge.

Hebrew Literacy Classes
Beginning, intermediate and
advanced Hebrew classes at 7:30
p.m. Mondays, beginning Oct. 23.
They will focus on learning He-
brew to participate more fully in
the Friday evening and Shabbat
morning services. Nominal ma-
terials fee.

Adult Bat Mitzvah Program
This is designed for women
who wish to prepare for a bat
mitzvah celebration at Adat
Shalom Synagogue on the first
day of Shavuot, May 24, 1996.
Adat Shalom clergy will instruct
the classes, which are scheduled
for 7 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning
in late October.

Sisterhood Study Series with
Rabbis Efry Spectre and Daniel
Nevins
Two afternoon study sessions,
12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 7 and
14 at Adat Shalom. This season's
topic will be modern Hebrew po-
etry. There is no charge. Coffee
will be served.

Beit Midrash with Rabbi Daniel
Nevins
An interactive learning pro-
gram. In coordination with the
Jewish Theological Seminary's
"Year of Talmud Study," this
year's program at Adat Shalom
will focus on tractate "Brakhot."
It will cover many liturgical, the-
ological, practical and legendary
areas. Noon and 7:30 p.m. pro-
grams will be held most Wednes-
days, Sept. 13 through March 27.
Advance reservations and fees for
lunches required.

and March 16: There is no

Connections — Links to Expand-
ing Your Jewish Life
On Saturday evening, Nov. 11.
Beginning with a Havdalah cer-
emony, the evening will present

Introduction to Women's Studies
in Judaism
This class will introduce stu-
dents to the major issues at the
intersection of Judaic studies and
women's studies. It will survey
writings on the relationship of
women to the Jewish tradition.
Six Wednesday evenings 7-9
p.m., Sept. 13 and 20, Oct. 11 and
25 and Nov. 1 and 8. Pre-regis-
tration is required. Tuition: mem-
bers, $90; non-members, $120.
Tuition includes all materials,
handouts and bibliographies.

Monday Humanistic Judaism
Class
This class, which runs Mon-
days from 7:30-8:30 p.m., is open
to all members of the congrega-
tion (and non-members for a fee)
who wish to strengthen their un-
derstanding ofJewish history,
culture and the ideas of Human-
istic Judaism. The program of
study covers two years. One is de-
voted to the philosophy of hu-
manism and to the meaning and
value ofJewish identity. The oth-
er year is centered around a sci-
entific presentation of Jewish
history, with special attention to
its humanistic meaning. In 1995-
1996, the topic will be "The Real
History of the Jews." The first ses-
sion will be Sept. 11.

Monday Forum
The Monday Forum, from
8:30-10 p.m., features lectures on
Jewish history, Jewish writers,
ethics, philosophy and psychol-
ogy, as well as reviews of current
literature, drama and films. Mon-
day Forum is open to the public.

Shabbat Study Hour
The Shabbat Study Hour, Sat-
urdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m., is
an opportunity to study Jewish
literature in depth almost every

The home-based Supper Se-
ries, on Sunday evenings, will
kick off Nov. 5 with guest speak-
er Rabbi Reuven Hammer on the
Book of Samuel. Rabbi Yoskowitz
will lead discussions on April 21
and June 23.

Shabbat Dinners
A three-part Shabbat dinner
series will focus on Israeli wars
and heroes. The first dinner will
be on Oct. 13 and will explore the
1967 Six-Day War. The Yom Kip-
pur War of 1973 will be the sub-
ject of the second dinner on
March 29. The final dinner will
focus on the Gulf War of 1991 and
will be held on May 23.
