Eddleston stopped the West's
last drive by sacking the quar-
terback. Eddleston is the only
Cranbrook player ever chosen to
take part in this game, and the
only Jewish participant this
year.
THE SKINNY: Eddleston also played
power forward for Cranbrook's
varsity basketball team and was
a defenseman on the lacrosse
team. He lifts weights and runs
at least three days a week to stay
in shape.
Cranbrook's lacrosse team
won this year's state champi-
onships for the AAA division. In
addition, the Midwest and Michi-
gan Lacrosse Coaches' Associa-
tion selected Eddleston to the
all-state and all-Midwest first
teams this year and last.
Eddleston will attend the Uni-
versity of Pennsylvania's Whar-
ton School of Business and play
football and lacrosse at Penn.
QUOTE: "Playing high-school
sports really gave me a strong
sense of self-identity," said Ed-
dleston. "Through athletics, I
gained a lot of friends and
learned how to handle competi-
tion. I am glad my sports
achievements enabled me to get
into an outstanding academic
college where I can work on
building a solid business career
and also keep up my athletics."

Topper is the top-ranked Jew-
ish junior fencer in the nation
under the age of 20 and has been
for the past three years. He be-
gan the sport at age 7, after
watching his mother fence.
Last month, Topper took sec-
ond place at the Sunflower State
Summer Games in Lawrence,
Kan., for the under-20 division.
He lost the gold-medal match by
a score of 15-13.
THE SKINNY: Topper also wrestles
for Berkley High School's team.
He is particularly proud that he
made varsity as a freshman
In fencing, Topper is coached
by Yuri Rabinowitz at the Fenc-
ing Academy of Michigan.
Rabinowitz was on the 1972 Is-
raeli Olympic team that went to
Munich. He took sick before the
games and could not make the
trip. Rabinowitz's roommate was
one of the Israeli athletes who
was murdered by Palestinian ter-
rorists.
QUOTE: "Fencing is a great way to
stay in shape, and a sport in
which a smaller-sized athlete can
compete equally against a larg-
er one," Topper said. "The keen
mental concentration helps me
overall in life. I am striving to
earn a fencing scholarship to Co-
lumbia or Penn. State, which
have two of the highest ranked
fencing programs in the country,
and would also provide me with
a quality education."
