DAVID WINEMAN, 79, of

Southfield, died July 26. Mr.
Wineman taught for 31 years
at Wayne State University
School of Social Work. He spe-
cialized in issues involving chil-

dren's rights; Mr. Wineman
worked against corporal pun-
ishment of children in the pub-
lic school, arbitrary suspen-
sions and expulsions from
school, inadequacies in the fos-
ter care and adoption systems.
He was a full-time volunteer for
the Michigan Chapter of the
American Civil Liberties
Union. He was co-author of two
books on children's behavior.
For several years, Mr. Wine-
man was the director of Pioneer
House, a home for severly dis-
turbed boys. He also served as
clinical director of a University
of Michigan summer program
for disturbed children.
He was the loving husband of
the late Geraldine Wineman.
He is survived by his sons,
Steven of Cambridge, Mass.,
Jim Thompson of Southfield;
brother, Saul of Farmington
Hills; one grandson. A memori-
al service will be held at the
Community Arts Auditorium at
Wayne State University on
Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. Memorial con-
