A Generous Gift,
A Beautiful Memory

A

fter reading an arti-
cle in the Jewish
News that ex-
plained how the Jewish Com-
munity Center's Library was
closing due to a lack of fund-
ing, a caring Ray Zimmerman
called to help out. His gener-
ous gift of $10,000 enabled the
Center to reopen the doors of
the Library once again.
Mr. Zimmerman, who con-
tributes to seven other pro-
grams at the Center, believed
this gift would further honor Left to Right: Seated - Lee Kepes, Friends of the Library
his wife Atara's memory. "I Co-Chair, Ray Zimmerman, Susie Rosenzveig,
wanted this gift to assist the Friends of the Library Co-Chair

oversee the many volunteers who
"Without this gift, the doors of donate their time to the Library.
the Library would remain closed", We anticipate being able to keep
said Chris Lewis, JCC Director of our Library open 40 to 50 hours
Operations. She continues on, per week by this Fall, which is a
"Thanks to Mr. Zimmerman and very exciting prospect!"

T

he Fitness Staff in the
Health Club personify the
word professional. These
men and women are very know-
ledgeable in the areas of health
and wellness and are ever present
in the fitness center. They are very
easy to spot in their red coats. So,
if you are in need of establishing
a workout program, refining one,
or simply have a question about a
piece of equipment, ask a pro.
The JCC Fitness Staff Pros are
also excited about offering the JCC
Health Club members an all in-
clusive health and fitness screen-
ing program. The screening

process covers numerous impor-
tant areas. Initially, a health histo-
ry profile is done. This is followed
by an assessment of cardiovascu-
lar fitness, body composition,
strength, endurance and flexibili-
ty. The Fitness Staff Pro will then
review and answer questions
about the tests. Further, informa-
tion about nutrition and the ben-
efits of exercise will be explained
in a clear and concise manner. Be
sure to see one of the JCC Fitness
Pros to set up an appointment.

Tisha B'Av
Sunday, August 6, 1995

isha B'Av, the ninth day of
the Hebrew month of Av,
o 1 is a tragic date on the Jew-
', ish calendar. It is a day of mourn-
',
o ing that marks the destruction of
both the first and second Temple
LLJ
=
1— in Jerusalem. Many other sad hap-
penings have also taken place on
Tisha B'Av.

It was on that date in 1290 that
King Edward I of England signed
the decree expelling the Jews from
England. It was also on that date
in 1492 that the Jews were ex-
pelled from Spain. Next to Yom
Kippur, (a Biblical holiday), Tisha
B'Av, (a post Biblical holiday), is
the most important fast day in the
Jewish calendar.

If you can't stand the heat,
come inside.

Special Health Club memberships!

While we all enjoy the warmer months, there are times when exercising
outdoors just isn't good for you. Excessive heat and humidity can make
even relaxed exercise a chore or a strain on you. It's great to have the op-
tion of an indoor workout, and then relax by our fantastic outdoor pool.
