SHELDON BECK, 62, former
Detroiter of Spring Lake, died
July 11. He was a graduate of
Hillsdale College and the Uni-
versity of Detroit College of Law.
Mr. Beck was a member of Sig-
ma Chi, Gamma Eta Gamma le-
gal fraternity and the Grand
Haven Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He is survived by his wife,

Southfield, died July 22. Mr.
Bennish was a laundry manag-
er. He was also a past officer

was the beloved husband of the
late Bertha Bennish. He is sur-
vived by his sons and daughters-
in-law, Aaron and Rebecca of
Oak Park, Dr. Michael and
Marie Christine of Cambridge,
Mass., Joseph and Harriet of
Long Beach, Calif.; daughter
and son-in-law, Grace Bennish-

DR. SAMUEL BROWN, 84, of
Deerfield Beach, Fla., died July
18. Dr. Brown was a retired po-
diatrist, a graduate of Booklyn
College, Illinois School of Podia-
try and the University of Michi-
gan School of Social Work. He
was a former director of the
American Jewish Congress in
Michigan and New Jersey, en-
gaging in many civil rights and
church-state related activities;
he participated in in removing
anti-Semitic statements from an
exhibit at the New York World
Fair. He served as tour director
for many AJC tours. Dr. Brown
also served as associate director
of the United Synagogue of
America and was assistant to
the chairman of the New Jersey
Department of Community Af-
fairs.
Dr. Brown is survived by his
son and daughter-in-law, Robert
and Elissa of Southfield; grand-
children, Benjamin and Michael
Brown; brother, Julius. Inter-
