the most decisive in Florida Jew-

permanent collection, Jews have
been a part of Florida history vir-

and only Jewish museum.
The state with the nation's
third-largest Jewish population
has long needed a venue in which
to display the artifacts of a 250-
year Jewish presence in Florida.
To that end, plans were devel-
oped over a period of almost a
decade; they have finally culmi-
nated with the creation of the
Sanford L. Ziff Jewish Museum.
The museum contains over
7,000 items, a vast inventory of
photographs, documents and oral
histories gathered in a four-year
search amidst the collections,

such manifestations as coats of
tan, freedom from stress and a
healthy and happy longevity.

earliest permanent settlement
was founded.

Jews who had adopted Chris-
tianity to escape the Inquisition,
had been aboard the fleet of
Columbus' first expedition. Pre-
