The Jewish Community Center
is seeking 7- to 10-person teams
for floor hockey, midnight bas-
ketball and flag football.
Registration begins June 19,
with league play starting July 9.

Chapter for City of Hope National
Medical Center will sponsor its
sixth annual golf classic Friday,
Aug. 4, at Bay Pointe Golf Club.
The fund-raiser features 18
holes of golf, use of a power cart,
continental breakfast, buffet
lunch, awards dinner, open bar
and full use of the clubhouse fa-
cilities and driving range. Tee-off
times are 7:30 a.m. and 12:30
p.m.
Cost is $175 per person, or $60
for the banquet only. Chairper-

The first annual Sam Young
Memorial Fun Run & Walk, to
raise funds to help send needy De-
troit area children to camp, will be
held Sunday, June 25, in Franklin.
The 3.5 mile run and walk re-
places a racquetball tournament
held the past two years in memory
of the late Sam Young, a prominent
local racquetball player and coach.
His widow, Gail Young, said the
fun run and walk will attract more
participants and raise more funds
for needy children. No official times
or places will be recorded at the
event.
The fun run and walk will begin
at Franklin Fitness & Racquet
Club in Southfield, go north on
Franklin Road and then wind
through Franklin village. The $15
entry fee includes a T-shirt. Re-
freshments will be available after
the event in the Franklin Fitness
parking lot.
The fun run will begin at 8 a.m.,
with registration starting at 6:30
a.m.

Tee-Off Fore The RAC, to bene-
fit the new West Bloomfield
Recreation Center, will have a
shotgun start 12:30 p.m. Friday,
July 7, at Bay Pointe Golf Club.
The event includes 18 holes of
golf, power cart, lunch, dinner,
beverages and prizes. The cost is
$135 per golfer or $500 per four-

Schools Planned
NHL player Mike Hartman and
Marshall Shencopp are sponsor-
ing their third season of Hockey
America hockey schools this sum-
mer at the University of Michi-
gan-Dearborn arena.
Two sessions for boys and girls
ages 6-16 begin the week of June
26 and July 3. The program runs
six hours each day.
