EVELYN LINDEN BALD-
WIN, 81, former Detroiter of

Long Beach, Calif., died Feb.
25. Mrs. Baldwin received a
combined bachelor's degree in
English and sociology and a
master's in social work. Her
first professional job was at the
Jewish Family and Children's
Service, where she worked as a
case worker.
She was involved in many
communal activities: American
Jewish Congress, Labor Zionist
Organization of America,
Histradut, Jewish Community
Council of Metropolitan De-
troit, Women's Division of the
Jewish Welfare Agencies, Jew-
ish Free Loan Society and the
National Council of Jewish
Women. She and her first hus-
band Sam were members and
supporters of Technion.
Mrs. Linden Baldwin was

the director of Franklin Settle-
ment day care center for three
year and developed an innova-
tive program training non-pro-
fessionals as aides in the nurs-
ery. She wrote a manual on the
developemnt of such programs,
which has been used through-
out Michigan and in several
other states. She also worked
as a planning consultant to the
United Community services of
Detroit, helping to develop
quality day care services. She
and her sons established the
Samuel Linden Scholarship
Fund at the Jewish Center to
provide funds to support Jew-
ish youth who wish to visit and
study in Israel.
She and her second husband
Robert were actively involved
in the Long Beach Jewish Com-
munity. Her sons and grand-
children established the Evelyn
Linden Baldwin Endowment
Fund in Long Beach to provide
an annual award for superior
literary expression on topics
reelated to Judaism.
Mrs. Linden Baldwin is sur-
vived by her sons, James and
Russell; brother Samuel Gins-
burg; daughters-in-law, Nancy
and jackie, grandhcildren, Seth,
Ari, Rebecca, Joshua. Dona-
tions may be made to the Eve-
lyn Linden Baldwin Endow-
ment Fund, Jewish Federation,
3801 E. Willow, Long beach,
CA 90815.

MATHILDE BEKGRAN, 89,

of Southfield, died April 24.
Mrs. Bekgran was a retail shoe

executive. She was the beloved
wife of the late Ludwig Bek-
gran. Mrs. Bekgran is survived
by her nieces and nephews,
Bette Lou Rimar of Oak Park,
Helmut and Etta Bernard of
Southfield, Dr. Henri and
Anaruth Bernard of Southield,
Heinz and Elaine Herz of Glen-
view, Ill. Interment at Beth
Tefilo Emanuel. Memorial con-

JUNE COLE, 85, of West

Bloomfield, died April 19. Mrs.
Cole was a music, art and liter-
ature teacher in the Detroit
public school system. She was
past president of the Girl
Scouts of metropolitan Detroit,
the Jewish Parents Institute,
Schulze PTA and the Tam
O'Shanter Women's Commit-
tee. Mrs. Cole was also a life
member of Hadassah, the Na-
tional Council of Jewish
Women, ORT, City of Hope,
Operation Friendship and
Brandeis.
She was the beloved wife of
the late Morris Cole and the
loving sister of the late Anne
Sallen. Mrs. Cole is survived
by her daughters and sons-in-
law, Suzanne and Sheldon Si-
mon, Rita and Sheldon Kirsch
of West Bloomfield; grandchil-
dren, Julie and Rachel Satz,
Andrew Kirsch, sisters and
