Varied Events
At The JPM

JPI Plans
Open House

The last OLSHA Food Distribu-
tion will take place on Monday,
April 24, at 1 p.m. at the JPM JCC
Distribution of surplus food will be
made to eligible Oakland County
residents who have previously reg-
istered for this program.
As part of the Keeping Healthy
At The Center series, mammo-
gram screenings will be held on
Tuesday, May 30, from 9:20 a.m.
to 4:40 p.m. Screening mammo-
grams will be given by appoint-
ment only. Sign up by calling
967-4030. Medicare or Medicaid
will be charged for the exam.
On Tuesday, April 25, at 1
p.m. Fabs Kaldobsky will lead
the Music Appreciation group.
There is no charge.
The Low Vision Support
Group will be involved in indoor
exercise on Wednesday, April 26,
at 12:30 p.m. Swimming also will
be available. There is no charge.
On Thursday, April 27, at 1
p.m. There will be a Yom
HaShoah program. Dr. Charles
Slow of Sinai Hospital, members
of the Center's Holocaust Sur-
vivors' Group, and two speakers
will discuss the meaning of lib-
eration, past, present, and future.
Music will be performed by Lil-
lian Zelman and Ruth Savage.
This program is free of charge.

The Jewish Parents Institute
(JPI), an alternative Jewish Sun-
day School, will hold an open
house on Sunday, April 30, for
prospective members at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center. JPI is an organization
dedicated to promoting a positive
secular Jewish identity for chil-
dren and their parents.
Children will be integrated
into the regular classes, while
adults mingle with other par-
ents. Coffee and bagels will be
available. Call JPI, 661-7637, for
information.

The Jewish Community Center's
Thursday Night Social Group, a
social, recreational and cultural
program for men and women
with developmental disabilities,
will take "A Special look at Israel"
in celebration f Israel Indepen-
dence Day. The event will take
place at the JPM building on
Thursday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m.
Julia Greenblatt, program co-
ordinator at JEFF, will facilitate
the program with a variety of ac-
tivities. For information, call

Machon Honors
Local Doctors

Walk For Israel
Chairmen Named

Machon's Annual Keser Shem
Tov Award will be presented at
this year's annual banquet to
Drs. Neil and Lynn Blavin.
The banquet will be held on
Wednesday, May 31, at the Plaza
Hotel in Southfield.
Lynn and Neil Blavin both
have been longtime participants
and supporters of Machon's ac-
tivities. Recently, they have vol-
unteered to ensure the success
of the new Jewish studies library
at Machon's Jewish Resource
Center in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Neil Blavin is a member
of the Academy of General Den-
tistry and a member of the Al-
pha Omega Dental Fraternity.
He has a fellowship with the
Academy of General Dentistry,
and the American Association of
Hospital Dentistry. He practices
dentistry in Livonia.
Dr. Lynn Blavin is a member
of American Medical Association,
a member of the American Acad-
emy of Family Practice and a
member of Society of Teachers of
Family Medicine. She is assis-
tant director of the family prac-
tice residency program at
Oakwood Hospital and is an as-
sistant clinical professor at
Wayne State University.
The Blavins are members of
Young Israel of Southfield.

Jennifer L. Mattler and Jeffrey
Sternberg have been named chair-
men of the annual Walk for Israel
that will kickoff the Incredible Is-
rael Fest on May 21 at the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community Center.
The walk of solidarity through
West Bloomfield will beg-in at 1:30
p.m. and is in celebration of the
47th anniversary of the state of Is-
rael. After the walk, participants
are encouraged to stay at the Cen-
ter to enjoy an afternoon filled with
entertainment and activities for
individuals and families of all ages.
Volunteers from the Young
Adult Division will provide as-
sistance with registration at 1
p.m. and will direct walkers
along the route.
Ms. Mattler is a board member
of the Jewish Federation's Young
Adult Division. She also is the co-
chairman of the YAD Outreach
Committee and holds positions on
YAD's Volunteer Impact and Gen-
eral Campaign committees.
Mr. Sternberg has been a board
member of YAD since 1988. He
has had various positions for the
YAD, including vice president in
1992 and 1993. He also was co-
chairman of the 1993 Super Sun-
day Campaign phonathon.
