Sisterhood Plans
Donor Day

Workshops Set
For Teachers

Twelve youngsters will join their
mothers and a team of profes-
sional and volunteer models in a
fashion show featuring spring
and summer apparel from area
stores on Tuesday, May 2, at
Adat Shalom Synagogue in
Farmington Hills. The show will
highlight the Adat Shalom Syn-
agogue Sisterhood's annual
Donor Day. Boutiques open at 10
a.m. followed by lunch at noon
and the program.
"Hats Off to Fashion!" will be
coordinated by Marilyn George-
son and Pat Sands and produced
by Bluma Siegal.
In addition to those profes-
sional models appearing in the
show, four Adat Shalom mem-
bers will be modeling: Linda
Golden, Andi Wolfe of Bloomfield
Hills and Rita Sheer and Sydelle
Sonkin of West Bloomfield. Some
fashions will be modeled by chil-
dren between the ages of three
and nine and three of the moth-
ers: Joan Epstein of Birming-
ham, Elyse Silber of Farmington,
and Nancy Rubin of Farmington
Hills.
Proceeds from Donor Day will
help to support the sisterhood's
projects which benefit the syn-
agogue and the community.
Cost for Donor Day is $36. The
public is welcome. Checks may
be sent to Sisterhood of Adat
Shalom, 29901 Middlebelt Rd.,
Farmington Hills, MI 48334.

On Thursday, April 27, educa-
tors from Jewish schools in the
metro Detroit community are in-
vited to an Erev Limud, evening
of workshops. Sponsored by the
Agency for Jewish Education, the
Erev Limud will be held from 7-
9:30 p.m. at Temple Beth El.
During the evening, titled "The
Spirit of Israel - Rodef Shalom:
Pursuing Peace," participants
will discover a variety of ways to
teach "shalom-peace" to their stu-
dents, in anticipation of the com-
munity-wide Israel Indepen-
dence Day celebration.
Jeff Kaye, community shali-
ach at the Michigan Israel Con-
nection, will open the program
with a presentation for the en-
tire group. Immediately follow-
ing, teachers will split into
smaller groups by grade level
and participate in three
workshops in a round-robin fash-
ion.
Carol Knoll, art teacher at hil-
lel Day School, will present
"Shalom Art." In "Shalom Mu-
sic," Brad Hyman, music teacher
at Temple Israel, will introduce
teachers to contemporary and
traditional songs which celebrate
the spirit of Israel and the hope
for peace. Nira Lev, director of
the Hebrew Interactive Learn-
ing Center and Hebrew Pro-
grams, at the AJE will present
"Shalom Poetry and Texts." This
workshop will offer teachers a
variety of ways to teach the con-
cept of "shalom" through Israeli
poems, literature and various
Jewish sources.
The last NIRIM opportunity
for the 1994/95 school year will
be held on Wednesday, May 3,
noon-1:30 p.m. at the Agency for
Jewish Education in Southfield.
This last session, "Summertime
Strategies: Keeping Families Jew-
ishly Active," will be led by Susan
Stettner director and Julia Green-
blatt, program associate of the
AJE's Jewish _Experience For
Families. This hands-on workshop
will provide educators with Jew-
ish activities to give to their stu-
dents and parents for the summer
months.
The Erev Limud and Trends
and Retrends Seminar are suit-
able for teachers of grades K-12.
they are part of the AJE's NIRIM
Professional Enrichment Program
for Jewish educators. participants
will receive two NIRIM units for
each program. There is no charge
for the Erev Limud and a minimal
fee for lunch at Trends and
Retrends. Teachers can regist-
er through their Education Direc-
tors.
