Kadima is proud to announce that we
have been granted a contract by the
Department of Mental Health to establish
8 new residential options for mentally ill
adults coming out of hospitals or other
group homes. Plans are under way to
have these new supported independent
apartments up and running in the spring.
Several options for these new spots are
being considered including 2 and 3 bed-
room apartments/ houses. Consumers
will receive a full range of services from

the Department of Mental Health includ-
ing: psychiatry, nursing, occupational
therapy, and case management. Kadima
staff will be providing assistance in adult
daily living skills, as well as, individual
and group therapy. These new con-
sumers will be integrated into our exist-
ing support groups and into the commu-
nities in which they will live. Interviews
are taking place now to hire additional
staff to service our new residential con-
sumers.

Volunteer Spotlight

Where would we be without our
volunteers! We'd be writing by hand
or on old typewriters instead of com-
puters. Many thanks to Joe Bildstein
who has given so many hours of his
time testing and setting up computer
stations for all of our staff. Thanks Joe!
Much of this newly installed equip-
ment comes from a recent donation by
E.D.S. Kadima is now ready to enter
the 21 century and jump on the infor-
mation superhighway.

If you have time to spare and share,
call us. Volunteers are needed to drive
consumers to medical appointments,
to accompany consumers to sporting
events, or to be a "buddy" to a con-
sumer. Of course, we also need ticket
sellers and helpers for our annual
fundraiser in September. Remember,
we're always looking for volunteers to
share their unique talents with our
staff and consumers.

Kadima Offices Take On New Look

White, bright, and roomy is the new
look of Kadima's offices. In February
Kadima moved to a new and larger
suite in the same Colonial Park office
complex. We are all dazzled by our
new home which provides the space
for individual offices for social work-
ers, a larger board room, a reception
area, a kitchen, and room to grow as

we add on new staff.
We parted with much of our old,
well worn furniture but are greatly in
need of a conference table for our
board room and other miscellaneous
office furniture. Think of Kadima
before discarding office furniture
that's in good condition or works of
art that you are no longer using.

atric disabilities lead lives of dignity,
self respect, and independence.

Tzedakah, charity, is a concept that
children learn very early in life. Parents
ensure that each child has an opportu-
nity to experience and participate in
giving of him/herself both emotionally
and financially. It is our belief that
when we give of ourselves to others
that we will receive inner gratification.
This gratification is the internal fire that
burns within us encouraging us to
repeat the act of giving.
Many of us give our time and energy
to volunteer on boards, soup kitchens,
food banks and many other worthy
endeavors. We donate dollars to causes
that are close to our hearts because we
want to feel that we can make a differ-
ence in the lives of others.
Kadima has grown as an agency
because you have believed in our mis-
sion and have taken on our cause as
your way of making a difference. The
need for Kadima in the community con-
tinues to be great. I look to you to
embrace this unique population
because adults with mental illness have
historically been stigmatized, ostra-
cized, and neglected by the community.
Kadima has gained from the fruitful
and generous gifts of those who have
supported us in the past. As I look
around at the progress of many of our
consumers in becoming independent
adults in the community, I am proud to
tell you that you have made a differ-
ence in the lives of others.

Tina Siegel Fund

A counseling fund to help con-
sumers pay for individual therapy
sessions has been established by
the family of the late Tina Siegel.
Through this fund, consumers who
are otherwise unable to afford
counseling services, are able to
receive subsidies. Tina was a
social worker who believed in the
work of Kadima. She died in
April, 1994 from a brain aneurysm.
Our thanks to her family for estab-
lishing this fund as a tribute to
Tina.
The Tina Siegel Counseling Fund
is now the third tribute fund that
has been established at Kadima in
recent years. The others include
the Mark Perlmutter Activity Fund
and the Tony Richman JOIN
Scholarship Fund. Tributes to
Kadima can be designated to any
one of these name funds or to the
general fund. Anyone interested in
establishing a special name fund or
a fund in memory of a loved one,
please contact Janette Shallal.
