Here are last week's B'nai
B'rith and Jewish War Veterans
bowling scores:

We are blessed to sit at our seder table among family and friends, as the inheritors of freedom.

As we celebrate, let us remember that there was a time when our own slavery began, when we were
changed from honored guests in the land of Egypt to impoverished slaves: "A new king arose over
Egypt who knew not Joseph." (Exodus 1:8). He feared the Israelites' strength and made us into slaves,
embittering our lives. With God's help, we went free out of Egypt.

Only after our exodus to freedom was it possible for us to receive the Torah at Mount Sinai. Thus
each of us is blessed with the inheritance of that march to freedom.

Today, 39 million Americans live among us enslaved by poverty. As we read the story of our
freedom and ponder questions about its meanings, let us also ask how we can best mend our society.
It is in our hands to ease the crushing burden of poverty and the embittered lives of those Americans.

We realize that today there is no modern parting of the waters; no miracles. Rather, we recognize
our roles as God's partners in making the best use of our own freedom and prosperity to help those
who are so poor as to be hungry. We must recognize a great opportunity as we celebrate freedom:
the opportunity to act upon our Jewish tradition of tzedakah - justice.
the sum
In this spirit, we ask that each family contribute to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger
we might have spent to invite one or more additional guests to the seder table. MAZON will
carefully grant these dollars to organizations helping hungry people. MAZON will see that the
are fulfilled today, and tomorrow. As poor and hungry
words: "Let all who are hungry come and eat"
people are filled with care and sustenance, so we too will be fulfilled. On this night, we will
remember the real meaning of "mazon" - sustenance.
