CRUZ
HEARING AID SERVICE

This year's Miss America has cho-
sen the theme "Anything Is Possible"
for her reign. And, as the first hearing
impaired woman to wear the Miss
America crown, Heather Whitestone
certainly seems to have chosen appro-
priately. This former Miss Alabama lost
most of her hearing at the age of 18
months in response to a bacterial in-
fection that was a reaction to a dippthe-
ria-pertussis-tetanus shot. She lost all
the hearing in her right ear and retained
only 5% of her ability to hear in her left
ear. Yet, by making the best use of a
hearing instrument, the ability to read
lips, and sign language to communi-
cate, Heather was able to meet the high
goals which she set for herself. Aside
from showcasing her beauty and her
talent, Ms. Whitestone made full use of
the interview segment of the pageant
to cement her victory.

Miss Whitestone is a remarkable
woman, and is an inspiration to every-
one, not just hearing impaired individ-
uals. If you have been suffering from
hearing loss and have been too afraid
or embarrassed to have it checked out,
please come see us at CRUZ HEARING
AID SERVICE. Our professional staff will
be happy to show you how hearing in-
struments can open up a whole new
world for you. For more information,
please call us for an appointment at 424-
8450. We are conveniently located at
18899 W. 12 Mile Rd., in Lathrup Vil-
lage. We will also visit your home or
nursing home ff you are unable to come
to our office.

P.S. Perhaps Heather Whitestone
will be an inspiration to the 20 million
Americans who have some degree of
hearing loss, yet do not avail themselves
of the use of a hearing instrument.
