Spring Classes
At Midrasha
The Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning will offer a num-
ber of classes and workshops du-
All classes are contingent on
minimum enrollment, and ad-
vance registration is strongly rec-
ommended. Unless otherwise
noted, all events will take place
at the Midrasha, 21550 West 12
Mile Road, Southfield; there is
a charge.
On Monday, March 13, at 7:30
p.m., Ruth Bergman will offer the
last of six sessions in the monthly
series "Behind the Veil: A Closer
Look at the Book of Esther." This
series is co-sponsored by the
Applebaum Jewish Parenting
Center of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek and will take place at the
parenting center, not Midrasha.
The title of this final session is
"Celebrating Purim: Then and
Now."
Also on March 13, Rabbi Her-
bert Yoskowitz will begin a four-
part study series on the Book
of Psalms titled "Turning to
Tehillim (Psalms): Spiritual Heal-
ing and Comfort in Times of Cri-
sis and Loss." This series will
meet on Monday nights from 7:30
to 9 p.m. Students may register
for individual sessions (March 13,
March 20, March 27, and April
3) or the entire series. The tuition
fee for the series includes a copy
of the newly-published book Heal-
ing of Soul, Healing of Body: Spir-
itual Leaders Unfold the Strength
and Solace in Psalms, edited by
Rabbi Simkha Y. Weintraub of
the Jewish Healing Center in San
Francisco. Rabbi Yoskowitz's
series is being offered in cooper-
ation with MJAC — the Michi-
gan Jewish AIDS Coalition and
Jewish Hospice Services.
Beginning on March 27, poet,
translator, and community edu-
cator Edward Codish will lead a
three-part text seminar titled
"Time, Torah, and the 20th Cen-
tury," an exploration of the
impact of the modern and post-
modern period on Jewish
thought, philsophy and ethics.
This series is designed for both
traditional Jews and those who
consider themselves nontradi-
tional. It will concentrate on texts
by Rosenzweig, Buber and Lev-
inasa, and will present a unify-
ing approach to Judaism. No
knowledge of Hebrew is required.

The normal deadline for local news and publicity items is noon
Thursday, eight days prior to issue date. The deadline for birth
announcements is 10 a.m. Monday, four days prior to issue date;
out-of-town obituaries, 10 a.m. Tuesday, three days prior to issue
date.
All material must be typewritten, double-spaced, on 8 1 /2 x 11
paper and include the name and daytime telephone number of
