Coach GARY LINCOLN'S Bat-
tle Creek Harper Creek High
School boys basketball team was
ranked No. 15 in Class B by Unit-
ed Press International on Jan. 23,
the highest listing in the school's
38-year history.
Harper Creek owned an 8-2
record at the time which includ-
ed a 5-1 mark in the Twin Valley
Conference.
In an 81-64 win over Paw Paw
(ranked No. 6 in Class B) on Jan.
17, sophomore BEN LINCOLN,
the coach's son, had 18 points, six
rebounds, five assists and three
steals for Harper Creek. Ben
made 7-of-9 shots from the floor
including three triples.
On Jan. 20, Ben scored six
points, hitting 4-of-5 free throws,
and he dished out five assists as
Harper Creek downed Hastings
67-53.

The Bloomfield Hills Andover
High School boys basketball team
went from ecstacy to agony last
week.
On Jan. 24, the Barons
stunned previously undefeated
Lake Orion 57-54, handing the
Dragons their first loss after 10
victories.
JEFF JACOB scored 17
points for Andover and he hit two
key baskets and made three key
steals down the stretch. DAN
KUKES contributed 16 points
and three blocked shots.
Three days later, on Jan. 27,
the Barons lost a 66-65 heart-
breaker to Hazel Park on a three-
point shot at the buzzer. The
victory was only the second in 12
games this season for Hazel Park
while Andover, which led by a
dozen points going into the fourth
quarter, slipped to 5-7. Both were
1-3 in Division IV of the OAA.
Jacob led the Barons with 23
points, while BRAD TRUDING
had seven points and seven re-
bounds.

After going winless in 21 games
last season, the Walled Lake
Western High School boys bas-
ketball team has shown marked
improvement this winter.
With GARON OSEFF scor-
ing 11 points, the Warriors de-
feated Livonia Churchill 54-45 on
Jan. 27, improving their record
to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the West-
ern Lakes Activities Association.

JASON EDDLESTON poured
home 19 points, but it wasn't
enough to prevent the Bloomfield
Hills Cranbrook Kingswood High
School boys basketball team from

losing a 71-55 decision to Livonia
Clarenceville on Jan. 27. The
Cranes slipped to 5-5 overall and

Cranbrook Kingswood's Jason
Eddleston passes to a teammate.

3-2 in the Metro Conference.
In Cranbrook Kingswood's 72-
31 victory over Detroit Lutheran
West on Jan. 24, DAVID
NACHIVIAN of the Cranes pulled
down 18 rebounds and scored
nine points.

MEAGAN PITT scored seven
service points, helping the
Berkley High School volleyball
team defeat Southfield 15-6, 15-
4 on Jan. 26 and stay unbeaten
in Division IV of the OAA.
The win was the Bears' fourth
straight in division play and they
were 10-4-2 overall.

SIMON GALED won the 50
freestyle (22.63) and 100 freestyle
(50.47) and he was on Berkley
High School's victorious 200 med-
ley (1:43.92) and 200 freestyle
(1:37.34) relay teams as the
Berkley boys swimming squad
downed Ferndale 120.5 to 59.5
on Jan. 26 for its first dual meet
triumph of the season.
The Bears improved to 1-4
overall and 1-1 in Division II of
the OAA.
