so important."
Rabbi Bennett was asked to
speak by United We Walk orga-
nizers because of his involvement
in the West Bloomfield Clergy As-
sociation. He also plans to par-
ticipate in the march.
Marchers should be dropped
off at Orchard Lake Middle
School by 9 a.m. Registration will
take place there, refreshments
will be available and a walk
warm-up will be held.
Drivers can park at the high
school and take a shuttle bus pro-
vided by General Motors back to
the middle school.
If Monday brings inclement
weather, marchers are asked to
call 738-3350 or watch the school
district's cable station, Channel
26, to see if the walk is cancelled.
The program at the high school
will be held as scheduled. O
For Erik Morganroth,
An Urgency To His Wait
JENNIFER FINER STAFF WRITER
E
rik Morganroth, a Univer-
sity of Michigan graduate,
had ambitions of going to
medical school.
But earlier this week, as the
25-year-old Troy resident waited
for a heart, his main goal was
survival.
Exhausted, Erik's family could
only hope a donor heart would be-
come available. Spending much
of their time at the University of
Michigan Medical Center with
their son, Janice and Fred Mor-
ganroth have become actively in-
volved in promoting organ
donation.
Last month, Erik was hospi-
talized after experiencing short-
ness of breath. A common flu
virus attacked his heart and
caused him to contract my-
ocarditis, an inflammation of the
lining of the heart which weak-
ens the tissue.
On Dec. 24, University of
Michigan Medical Center physi-
cians placed Erik on an external
heart pump, which pumps blood
through Erik's body as he waits
for a donor. A patient can gener-
ally survive for up to two weeks
on .a pump yet Erik continues in
good condition.
