Choosing
Trainers

SHARON ACHATZ

SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS

For many, the logical first step
in getting fit is joining a health
club, but that's not necessarily
the secret to success.
According to training experts,
if you're not exercising properly,
you won't realize fitness benefits
even if you work out at a club
regularly.
The key to true and total fit-
ness, they say, is to turn to a per-
sonal fitness trainer.
Trainers design specific indi-
vidual workout programs ac-
cording to a clients's age, health
status, present level of fitness,
body type and personal goals.
Then they run them through the
workout paces — to ensure prop-
er form and dedicated effort.
Trainers can be found through
the recommendation of your
health club — some clubs even
keep a few trainers on staff— or
through a consulting firm that
will pair a client with a consul-
tant who will come to his work-
out environment of choice at
designated times.

A Specialty Shoppe Catering to Women's Intimate Fashion Needs

Like almost anything else, ex-
ercise is an individual activity,
so you need to choose the train-
er who is right for you. Do you
0 want a simple exercise program
you can live with? A profession-
al mastery of gym equipment?
Hands-on help with body sculpt-
ing? Trainers have different
specialties, so choose according-
ly.
Ask each prospective trainer
questions such as where he re-
ceived his training and if he's cer-
tified in CPR. Ask to see
certification and whether he car-
ries liability insurance. Get re-
ferrals.
Most importantly, make sure
that you feel comfortable with
him. If a prospective trainer
seems boring, chances are he
is not going to be a good motiva-
tor.
Most people who work with
trainers do so for a period of two
to six months, after which they
feel comfortable designing their
own workout regimens. ❑

Recent research indicates that
there may be more fact than fan-
tasy surrounding the notion that
pregnant women who talk to their
unborn children can be heard. In
fact, when researchers from the
University of Florida at Gainesville
studied the passage of sound from
outside to inside the womb, they
discovered that sound sometimes
registers louder inside the pregnant
uterus than outside it. This may ex-
plain why children seem to be born
with a familiarity with their parents'
voices. It also suggests that preg-
nant women who are exposed to
excessive noise levels may be
endangering the hearing of their
unborn children. Evidence already
exists that children born to moth-
ers exposed to high level industrial
noise during pregnancy are more
likely to experience hearing loss.

It's amazing to think that unborn
children may be able to hear noises
inside the womb. Hearing is im-
portant at any age, and at CRUZ
HEARING AID SERVICE, we want
to help you towards better hearing
health. Come in and let us show you
the new advances in hearing aid
technology. We offer a 30-day trial
period, so that you can have the op-
tion of changing your decision. We
want to be satisfied, so stop in and
see us at 18899 W. 12 Mile Rd., in
Lathrup Village (424-8450). All
major credit cards are accepted. We
would like to take this opportunity
to wish our readers and their fam-
ilies a safe and Merry Christmas!
P.S. Research shows that low-
frequency noises are enhanced and
high-frequency noises are reduced
as they enter the womb.
