Shir Shalom

Educators Plan
Conference

The religious school teachers of
Temple Shir Shalom will partic-
ipate in an educator's conference
Oct. 30 sponsored by the Agency
for Jewish Education.
Through their study of com-
parative religions, the high school
students will visit the Hindu
Bharatiya Temple Nov. 6. The
students will view a worship ser-
vice and have an opportunity to
participate in a discussion ques-
tion and answer session with one
of the priest. On Nov. 20, the stu-
dents will visit an Islamic mosque
in Dearborn.
On Nov. 12, the first grade stu-
dents will conduct a program
about rnitzvot for the young chil-
dren's Shabbat service. Teachers
Barbara Dorfman and Mady Pu-
davick will help direct.
Nov. 13 is the date set for the
fifth graders to visit the mikvah
at Congregation Beth Achim.
This field trip introduces and ex-
plains the concepts associated
with this tradition.
Maureen Fishman will present
a Chanukah puppet show Nov.
20. Workshops after the show in-
chide making latkes and a song
fest.

Jewish educators from congre-
gational, community afternoon
and nursery schools will partici-
pate in the Jewish Educator's
Conference on Oct. 30, 8:30 a.m.
to 1:15 p.m. at Temple Israel.
Sponsored by the Agency for
Jewish Education and the Jew-
ish Educators Council of Metro-
politan Detroit, the half day
conference is part of the AJE's
NIRIIVI Professional Enrichment
Program.
Workshops for teachers of
teens and teaching assistants
also will be offered. Kosher box
lunches will be provided during
a break between workshop ses-
sions.
Participants are asked to
bring a can of kosher food for
Yad Ezra Kosher Food Bank
and pennies for the Penny Har-
vest, a fund-raising program
led by our community's fifth
graders.
There is a fee for the confer-
