Federation Plans
New Campaign

Volunteers of all ages will per-
form a mitzvah Oct. 23 for tens
of thousands of people who ben-
efit from the Allied Jewish Cam-
Paign.
On Super Sunday, Oct. 23, vol-
unteers will phone for pledges in
support of the annual Campaign,
perform clerical tasks and enlist
and register other volunteers at
the Max M. Fisher Building.
The Campaign helps our peo-
ple here and abroad through
more than 60 agencies and ben-
eficiaries of the Jewish Federa-
tion of Metropolitan Detroit. This
year's Campaign goal is to raise
$27 million — $1 million more
than 1994 — to meet the needs
of our community and our people.
Shifts are: 9:30 a.m. - 12:15
p.m. and 11:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Federation's Young Adult Divi-
sion will have its phonathon at 6
p.m. Board members of the Fed-
eration, its sgencies and planning
divisions will have their own shift
from 2 to 4:45 p.m.
Volunteers also will be needed
for the Days of Decision phona-
thons next spring and for other
Campaign events.
Organizations, congregations,
groups and individuals who wish
to volunteer should call Leonard
Milstone at Federation, (810) 642-
4260, ext. 250.
Federation Shabbat will carry
the message of the 1995 Allied
Jewish Campaign — "Our Com-
munity: Be Proud of It. Be a Part
of It" — at area congregations
Oct. 14 and 15.
The special annual Shabbat
observance focuses on the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit and its Campaign, Detroit
Jewry's major fund-raising ap-
peal, which helps thousands of
our people through 60 beneficia-
ry agencies here and around the
world.
Federation and Campaign
leaders and rabbis addressing
area congregations to date are:
Oct. 14: Jeannie Weiner, Temple
Emanu-El; and Rabbi Norman
Roman, Temple Kol Ami.
Oct. 15: Mark Schlussel, Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek; Rab-
bi William Gershon,
Congregation Shaarey Zedek-
B'nai Israel Center; Penny Blu-
menstein, Congregation Shir
Tikvah; Dr. Conrad Giles, Con-
gregation Beth Achim; Rabbi
David Nelson, Congregation Beth
Shalom; Judah Isaacs, Young Is-
rael of Greenfield; Rabbi Noah
Gamze, Downtown Synagogue;
Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, Young
Israel of Southfield; Suzi Alter-
man, Congregation B'nai Moshe;
and Barbara Cook, Congregation
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses.
Rabbi Gamze will speak on
"Our Responsibilities" and Rab-
bi Goldberg on "The Importance
of Community."

It's our Sixteenth Anniversa
And Instead OfA Party,

You could lose things
like extra weight. High
blood pressure. And high
blood cholesterol levels.
The very things that con-
tribute to heart attack and
stroke.
All you have to do is in-
vest wisely at the super-
market.
Buy more in the fresh
produce, pasta, breads
and cereals sections. And
purchase fish, poultry and
lean meats instead of fatty
or processed meats.
Switch to low-fat dairy
products and margarine.
And check the nutritional
listings on food labels.
In short, be selective
about how you play this
market. Because no mat-
ter how much you lose,
you've got a lot to win.
