Cheryl Chodun, Channel 7 news-
caster, will be the principal
speaker at the opening fall lun-
cheon meeting of the Greater De-
troit Chapter of the Brandeis
University National Women's
Committee Oct. 12 at noon at
Somerset Inn. Her topic will be
"Responsibility of the Media to
the Public."
Prior to being named a Chan-
nel 7 reporter in 1988, Ms.
Chodun was a writer and pro-
ducer there from 1978 to 1982.
She has won two Emmys — one
for a breaking news story and the
other for general excellence in
news reporting, and she was
named outstanding woman on-
air for television by the American
Women in Radio and Television.
There is a charge for the lun-
cheon which includes a tax-de-
ductible donation to the Brandeis
University Work Study Program,
in which scholarship students are
paid to work in the university li-
braries.
For luncheon reservations, call
Joan Braun, 626-8985; or Eileen
Smith, 559-5268. Those unable to
attend the luncheon are invited
to hear the program at 1:30 p.m.
Institute Hears
Dr. Friedman
The Institute of the Jewish Fed-
eration's Women's Division is an
annual community-wide out-
reach program for Jewish women
of all ages. It aims to provide ed-
ucational programming and an
enhanced understanding of Fed-
eration.
This year, psychologist Sonya
Friedman will speak on a
women's struggle to separate
while staying connected to those
they love. Dr. Friedman has writ-
ten numerous self-help books.
The Nov. 3 program will be
held at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. For reservations, call
Karen Gordon, 642-4260.
