Adult Hebrew
At Midrasha

Money Talk
At Brunch

The Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning will offer adult
Hebrew classes from beginner to
advanced this semester. Al-
though the emphasis in on Con-
versational Hebrew, classes are
also being offered in beginner and
intermediate Hebrew reading.
Some classes meet in the day-
time, others on weeknights. New
students are welcome to audit a
class at no charge to see if the lev-
el is right for them. Many
Midrasha adult Hebrew students
have some Hebrew language
skills which they are seeking to
strengthen and improve.
Adult Hebrew classes at
Midrasha meet for 14 to 16 ses-
sions a semester once a week for
a two-hour session. There is a tu-
ition fee structure, and scholar-
ship assistance and flexible
tuition payment plans are avail-
able.
Heading the adult Hebrew
teaching staff at Midrasha in
Nira Lev, director of the AJE He-
brew Interactive Learning Cen-
ter. A number of Ms. Lev's
advanced Hebrew classes utilize
an innovative Hebrew interactive
learning video developed by Pro-
fessor Edna Coffin of the Uni-
versity of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
The other professional teachers
in Midrasha's adult Hebrew lan-
guage program are Susie Cook,
Ronit Goutkovitch, Ahuva New-
man, and Tziona Ragowsky.

Rick Bloom, attorney, CPA, fi-
nancial planner, host of "Mon-
eyTalk" on WXYT and financial
columnist for the Detroit News,
will be the guest speaker at Con-
gregation Beth Achim Men's
Club Paid Up Membership
Brunch Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. at the
synagogue.
Rick Bloom's topic will be "Get-
ting Your Financial House in Or-
der; A look at Financial and
Estate Planning."
There is no charge for paid-up
members. To become a member,
pay dues at the door. To attend,

Performing Arts
Classes Set

Lessons in traditional piano and
Suzuki violin and viola are being
offered at the Jewish Communi-
ty Center, West Bloomfield and
Oak Park locations. Teachers are
accepting children and adult stu-
dents at every level. For infor-

Dance is happening at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center. The adult dance class-
es offered this semester are
ballroom, Israeli folk, country
western-line, modern/jazz, tap,
and ballet. The dance classes for
children are preballet, ballet, jazz,

JPI Hosts
Sukkot Event

The Jewish Parents Institute will
present a Sukkot celebration on
Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at Camp Ruth
II, on the grounds of the
Maple/Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center. Join in the building
and decorating of the sukkah;
bring a picnic lunch; participate
in singing, dancing, relay races,
games, crafts activities, and a
hayride.
The celebration is open to the

Dinner Dance

The Gamma Kappa Chi Alum-
ni Fraternity of Wayne State Uni-
versity will hold their 58th
anniversary dinner dance Oc t. 6

Music Month
Events Set

Throughout September, as part
of Classical Music Month, WQRS
will feature special pieces of mu-
sic and give away "Introduction
to Classical Music" packets, filled
with a classical CD, T-shirt, book-

also will participate in Detroit's
Festival of the Arts with "Bach's"
Lunch Sunday concert which
starts at 11 a.m., featuring mem-
