jor, he plans to go to law school.
"Jared took courses at Oakland
Community College to give him
a head start on his collegiate aca-
demics," Johnson said. 'That tells
me he has his head on straight
and his priorities are in the
proper order."
Armand Molino, director of
tennis at the Sports Club of West
Bloomfield, has coached Miller
for seven years, helping him earn
national rankings in the United
States Tennis Association
(USTA). Molino says Miller is a
winner on and off the court.
"Jared is polite and friendly,
and always willing to lend a help-
ing hand," Molino said. "He is a
role model for the young players
at our club. He often takes time
out from his schedule to work
with them."
Fried, a 6-foot, 178-pounder,
suffered his knee injury during
the seventh game of Berkley's
nine-game schedule last fall, but
he still was named a Class AA-A
All-Stater by the Associated
Press.
A starter for Berkley since he
was a sophomore, Fried ended up
making 200 tackles in 22 career
games.
He played free safety ; running
back, wide receiver and quarter-
back during his high school days
and he also was a place-kicker,
punt and kickoff return man and
long snapper.
Before hurting his knee, Fried
scored touchdowns last season by
rushing, receiving and intercep-
tion return. He also threw for two
TDs as a quarterback and he
passed for and received two-point
conversions.
Fried was the starting point
guard for the Berkley boys bas-
ketball team as a sophomore and
junior, but the injury forced him
to sit out his senior season.
"I have coached over 500 ath-
letes and none have equaled
Ryan's desire to be a champion,"
said Berkley football coach Pat
Fox. ❑
