Learn more about Apple Island,
the beautiful and mysterious isle
in the center of Orchard lake, on
any of several tours offered by
West Bloomfield Parks and
Recreation this fall. All tours are
guided either by a naturalist of a
historian and require advanced
registration. There is a cost to at-
tend any of the tours.
Nature tours are scheduled on
Sept. 17 at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Historical to are scheduled for
Oct. 8 at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1
p.m.
Visitors reach Apple Island by
pontoon boat. Boats depart from
the launch on Pontiac Trail be-
tween Orchard Lake and Old Or-
chard Trail. Parking at the site
is available.

Philharmonic
Concert Series

The Farmington Area Philhar-
monic has set its 1994/95 concert
series. The Philharmonic, a pro-
fessional orchestra, is dedicated
to offering high quality and af-
fordable performances for the
community and family oriented
classical music and entertain-
ment. This year's season includes
five concerts. In addition, there
will be three special events for the
entire family.
Rhapsody in Red, White &
Blue will be heard Sept. 30 at 8
p.m.. Buckaroo Holidays II a
family concert is set for Oct. 1 at
3 p.m. Cheerio will be staged Nov.
6, at 7:30 p.m. It is a British con-
cert with DSO violinist Hart Holl-
man performing. The Nutcracker
and other sweet, a family concert,
is set for Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. Win-
ter Fantasies 3 a family concert
will take place Feb. 12 at 3 p.m.
Love Stories will be heard Feb.
14 at 8 p.m. Tchiefly Tchaikovsky
takes the stage March 19 at 3
p.m. Details on "Hot Buttered
Pops, music from the movies,"
will be announced.

Studion Theater
Plans Series

Eleemosynary Lee Blessings dra-
ma about a family of three ambi-
tious, courageous and
understanding women who pos-
sess unique eleemosynary (char-
itable) characteristics, will open
the Studio Theatre Series at
Wayne State University's Studio
Theatre, on the lower level of the
Hilbeny, at 8 p.m. on Sept. 10.

The 1994-95 Studio Theatre
series also will include produc-
tions ofBig White Fog a depiction
of a Chicago black family's sur-
vival against poverty, prejudice
and injustice during the Depres-
sion, by Theodore Ward (Nov. 3-
6 and 10-12); Nunsense a
habit-forming musical comedy in
which the Sisters of Hoboken
stage a benefit to raise money for
an unusual cause, with book, mu-
sic and lyrics by Dan Goggin
(Jan. 19-22 and 26-29); and On
Strier's Row a comedy that ex-
amines a Harlem family's at-
tempt to keep up with other
society blacks who live on Striv-
es Row, by Abram Hill (March
30, 31 and Aoril 1,2 and 6-8.

Music Program
Demonstration

A free demonstration of the Kin-
dermusik Preschool Program will
take place at the Orchard Lake
School of Music in West Bloom-
field. The method is a holistic ap-
proach to music for children ages
18 months through 6 years, in-
volving movement, singing, in-
struments, listening experiences,
with note reading, writing and
composition for the older begin-
ner.

Autumnfest
At Marshbank

Autumnfest '94, West Bloom-
field's annual country fair at
Marshbank Park, is planned for
Sept. 18. This noon to 5 p.m. fall
festival of old fashioned family
fun includes such activities as
pony rides, hayrides, a petting
farm, moonwalk, games.
This event is sponsored by
West Bloomfield Parks and
Recreation. There is no admis-
sion fee to the autumnfest; how-
ever, a parking fee per car will be
assessed each vehicle entering
the park.
