Harold Altman, internationally
recognized landscape impres-
sionist, will open the exhibition
of his 1994 collection of 35 works
as well as a retrospective of over
50 rare, early works, which will
run through Sept. 22 at Park
West Gallery.
The collection, inspired by na-
ture, will feature Mr. Altman's
newly created 1994 collection in
its entirety and lithographs and
etchings spanning 20 years of the
artist's career.
Similar to an architect in deal-
ing with space, Mr. Altman cre-
ates positions which are carefully
designed and controlled, captur-
ing small human dramas among
nature's colorful foliage and land-
scape. Mr. Altman's works teach
viewers to see familiar places —
such as breathtaking beautiful
famous parks — from new per-
spectives.
Park West has selected litho-
graphs and etchings, spanning
almost 20 years of work, to be of-
fered with the new collection.
This group perfectly reveals Mr.
Altman's technical mastery and
his broad range of subjects and
interpretations. Many of these
works are extremely rare and
have not been made available to
collectors for several years.
Park West Gallery is located at
29469 Northwestern Highway in
Southfield. Gallery hours are Mon-
day-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.,
Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-9
p.m. and Saturday and Sunday
11 a.m.-6 p.m. For information,
call the gallery, (810) 354-2343.

The north Woodward galleries in
uptown Birmingham, will cele-
brate First Thursday Sept. 1 from
5:30-8:30 p.m. as a coordinated ef-
fort to accommodate everyone's
busy schedule by providing si-
multaneous openings and ex-
tended gallery hours through 8:30
p.m. on the first Thursday of each
month.
