Old Fashioned
Concert Set

Henry Ford Museum & Green-
field Village and Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra Hall will come
together for their third joint pro-
gram this summer with An Old-
Fashioned Concert in the Park.
Aug. 12 and 13 on the museum's
Village Green.
Entertaining pre-concert ac-
tivities will begin at 7 p.m. each
concert evening. The Dixieland
band The Gabriels will perform,
as well as a barbershop quartet,
and the strains of a genuine cir-
cus calliope will be heard across
the Village Green. Historic char-
acters will engage children in tra-
ditional games, the La-De-Dahs
period baseball team will recruit
players for a pick-up game or two;
ladies in their 19th century sea-
sonal finery will share fashion se-
crets with curious visitors; and
even the political types of the
time period can be found "glad-
handing" the crowd!
Concertgoers may bring blan-
kets or lawn chairs for festival
seating on the Village Green. A
variety of casual "box lunches"
themed around the stories of
Greenfield Village buildings will
be offered for purchase at A Taste
of History, the newly opened Vil-
lage restaurant, and traditional
summertime foods including hot
dogs, frozen custard and ice
cream will be for sale as well as
soft drinks, lemonade, beer, wine
and other alcoholic beverages.
Attendees may bring their won
picnic suppers if they wish. State
law prohibits guests from bring-
ing alcoholic beverages onto the
grounds, but non-alcoholic bev-
erages in non-glass containers
are permitted.
For ticket information, call the
Greenfield Village concert infor-
mation line, (313) 271-9150.
