You should avoid foods high in
cholesterol. It's a fact, a high
blood cholesterol level sub-
stantially increases your
chances of developing heart
disease. By cutting down on
fatty, rich foods, you can do
yourself a big favor. You could
lower your blood cholesterol
level and reduce your risk of
heart disease.

some free advice on how to
plan a diet good for life.

CARLA JEAN SCHWARTZ LOCAL COLUMNIST

Perhaps it was
the speaker —

Wolf Blitzer,
CNN's senior

White House cor-
respondent. Per-
haps it was the
elegant home of

Jenny and
Lazar Dorf-

man. Perhaps it was the hon-

orees, all the Conservative
rabbis in town. Perhaps it was
the co-chairmen, Jenny Dorf-

man and Steve Margolin.

Whatever the reason, last
week's Hillel patron event was
the most successful ever with
more than 200 patrons.
Even the Dorfman
daughters, Michal and
Caryn, drove in from Ann
Arbor and East Lansing to
attend. It was Benjamin
Gene's 11th birthday, and
he attended, along with his
parents Marty, who is the
president of Hillel Day
School, and his mom, Sharon.
"The school is at a
crossroads, about who we are

Many patrons rose to that
occasion and increased their
pledges, allowing families
below the poverty level to
waive the minimum $1,000
tuition requirement.
Some of the Hillel patrons
included: Ann Baruch,

Marcy Borofsky, Larry
Charlupski, Ellyce Field,
Jay Brody, Jeff Garden,
Alan Nachman, Lou
Glazier, Howard Tapper,
David Hermelin, Doreen
Hermelin, Sue Kaufman,
Terran Leemis, Lauren
Liss, Paul Magy, Arlene
Margolin, Marcie Orley,
Robert Schostak, David
Rosenberg, Arlene
Tilchin and Trudy Weiss.

and who we will be able to
serve," said Mr. Gene. With
rising tuition costs and less
scholarship money
available, Hillel Day School
