LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ON WEEKENDS
past year, it was one of the na-
tion's top 50 dealers in sales.
In the first nine months it
opened, Tamaroff sold 5'/2 per-
cent of all Buicks sold locally .
.. It continually sells about 21
percent of all Buicks sold here-
abouts.
Mary Tamaroff is known for
helping former sales managers
obtain dealerships . . . Gene
Vyletel, Jack Fowler, Bill Tyson,
Gene Roberts.
He is a firm believer in giv-
ing back to the community .. .
and has served on local boards
unrelated to the automotive in-
dustry . . . former member of the
citizen advance committee,
Southfield Board of Education;
Southfield Chamber of Com-
merce, etc. . . . Mary is a mem-
ber of the Zeiger Lodge B'nai
B'rith, Mosaic Masonic Lodge
. . . and in 1987 was given the
Golden Torah Award of Beth
Yehudah Schools.
Marvin and wife Claire re-
cently celebrated their 40th an-
niversary . . . and have two
children, Jeffrey (Sandy), and
Karen Frehsee (Howard).
Their son, Jeffrey, and Mary
make up the only father-and-
son team in the United States
with the same automotive fran-
chise in the same metropolitan
market.
Both have Buick and Nissan
franchises . . . Being 22 miles
away (Jeffrey Buick is on Gra-
tiot in Roseville), Mary and son
Jeffrey are non-competitive.
They sold 4,000
cars in their first
four years.
Tony Jerome came on board
17 years agao as sales manager
for Tamaroff Buick . . . Within
three years, Mary made him
general manager, a post which
he had himself held 15 years
. . . Mary needed Tony to run
the place while he was out get-
ting other franchises and deal-
erships . . . Tony's title today is
vice-president and general man-
ager of Tamaroff Buick, Honda,
Nissan and Isuzu.
Also on the Tamaroff man-
agement team are . . . Mike Co-
hen, general manager 3.5 years
of Tamaroff Dodge, 12 Mile,
west of Telegraph . . . Prior to
this he was g.m. five years at
Dexter Chevrolet and was with

can Motors sales and market-
ing . . . Joe Posby has been
general manager of Acura on
Gratiot eight years . . . and be-
fore that was 4.5 years with
Tamaroff Leasing . . . Nobody
knows her by any other name
except Charlie . . . She is Mary
Tama/offs executive secretary
. . . Charlie Dudek has been
with Mary 12.5 years.
Besides Claire, his two chil-
dren and five grandchildren,
Mary has another love . . . an-
tique cars which he started col-
lecting in 1957 while buying an
Irish Sweepstakes ticket . . . He
saw a 1937 Horsch and brought
it back from Germany . . . This
was the start of a hobby love
that has forever brought an
extra glimmer in his eyes . . . At
one time, Mary had as many as
50 antique cars . . . He still has
20 housed in their own garage
on the Tamaroff 15 acres . . . His
favorite is a 1949 Buick Road-
master convertible . . . All have
been refurbished, look like new,
and are able to be taken for a
spin ... Marvin himself is a me-
chanical engineer, 1949 gradute
from General Motors Institute.
A 1931 Buick Roadmaster
with rumble seat even has a
special spot for golf bags and
storage trunk for fitted luggage
. . . A 1932 Buick Roadmaster
convertible is one of only 289
that were made.
Since 1900, says Marv, there
have been the amazing total of
2,800 different auto makers.
He also holds a large love-ad-
miration for antique hood or-
naments . . . and has 1,000 of
them, every shape and form
. . . in cases and scattered
among steering wheels, head-
lights, license plates, gas
pumps, posters, pre-war badges
given to winners of races, etc. .
.. It is a museum which can
only be seen by friends of Mary
and by appointment.
Marvin Tamaroff celebrates
25 years ... It is a great achieve-
ment for this man and his team.
If one strives each day to out-
class the person he or she was
yesterday, reaching the top is
just a matter of time . . . This
has seemed to be the credo by
which Mary Tamaroff lives his
life as he smells the sweetness
of success.
