JCCouncil
Hosts Teens

Two Israeli teens, serving as
part of a delegation of good-
will ambassadors touring the
United States, will be welcomed
to Detroit at an ice skating
social at the Birmingham Ice
Arena 9 p.m. March 5.
Members of area Jewish
youth groups are invited to at-
tend the program welcoming
16-year-old Pazit Fuchs and
Guy Friedman, who will be in
the Detroit area from March 4-
11. There is a charge for the
skating event, which will in-
clude refreshments. Skates can
be rented at the arena for a fee.
In addition to this kickoff
event, the Israeli teens will visit
with American high school stu-
dents at several area schools
and churches, where they will
talk about life as a teenager in
Israel.
"Milk, Honey and Ice" is
sponsored by the Jewish Com-
munity's Youth Steering Com-
mittee, comprised of B'nai B'rith
Youth Organization, United
Synagogue Youth, National
Conference of Synagogue
Youth, B'nei Akiva, Young
Judea, and Michigan State
Temple Youth.

Discovery Place,
Matzah Factory

My Jewish Discovery Place has

opened a new exhibit, Lekh-
Lekha. The walls of the exhibit
are decorated by glow-in-the-
dark stars on which the chil-
dren have written their English
and Hebrew names. Children
may add their star to the walls!
Discovery Place hours are:
Sunday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.;
Monday, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.;
Tuesday, 3 p.m.-7 p.m.;
Wednesday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.;
Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The Matzah Factory will re-
turn to the Maple-Drake Jew-
ish Community Center March
13. The factory will be in oper-
ation daily beginning March 13
through March 20. (The factory
is closed on Friday and Satur-
day.) The hours will be 10 a.m.-
4 p.m. on Sundays, and Monday
through Thursday 10 a.m.-noon
and 1-4 p.m. Families and re-
ligious schools are welcome to
come take part in this hands-on
experience.
Visitors will receive a baker's
hat, a piece of Shmurah mat-
zah, and a pamphlet describing
the celebration of Passover. Par-
ticipants will make their own
piece of matzah.
There is a charge per partic-
ipant and there will be no
charge for accompanying

adults. The Matzah Factory is
co-sponsored by the Jewish
Community Center and the
Bais Chabad of West Bloomfield
and Farmington Hills.
Groups are welcome; call for

Special Needs
Class Is Set

The Jewish Community Center
will sponsor a class designed for
pre-school children age 3-5 with
special needs. Parent and child
will work together developing
gross motor skills through
music and movement.
Classes will begin March 24
and will run for nine weeks at
the Maple-Drake building.

BBYO Chapters
Make Plans

Four chapters of BBYO will
sponsor a Purim party for
JARC residents Feb. 26 at the
JPM branch of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
The chapters participating in
this program are Shira BBG,
Achayot BBG, Samson AZA
and Sammy AZA. Activities of
the evening will include a DJ,
dance contests, games and
refreshments.
BBYO will hold its second
Jewish Heritage Night 6:30-
8:30 p.m. March 6 at the UHS
building. The program is a
Purim Murder Mystery.

LAUREN FREEDMAN, an

8th grader at West Hills Mid-
dle School in Bloomfield Hills,
won a first place trophy for dra-
matic interpretation in a
statewide forensics competition
for middle school students held
in Ann Arbor.

LISA GUTTMAN, of Farming-

ton Hills, recently competed in
the Drum Majorettes of Amer-
ica's Mini-National competition
