The Michigan State Jewish Stu-
dent Union will sponsor a din-
ner and discussion 6:30 p.m.
Feb. 21 at the Hillel Jewish Stu-
dent Center, 402 Linden St.,
East Lansing. The evening will
feature Macomb County prose-
cutor and U.S. Senate candidate
Carl Marlinga, and State Sen-
ator Dave Honigman. The two
will speak on the questions of
American-Israel relations and
how Jewish students can be-
come involved in politics.

Metro Hillel
Plans Calendar

On Feb. 19 from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.,
the Metro Council of Hillel of
Metro Detroit will present the
Saturday Night Fever Disco
Dance with Living Energy fea-
turing the sounds of the '70s
and '80s as well as Techno-mu-
sic and a light show. There will
be door prizes, a prize for the
best costume and activities for
those who would rather not
dance. The event will be held at
Adat Shalom Synagogue. At-
tendees should bring a can of
kosher food for the Yad Ezra
food pantry. Tickets can be pur-
chased at the door.
On Feb. 23 the Jewish Stu-
dents Organization/Hillel at
Oakland University will pre-
sent Richard Kokochak speak-
ing on "Graphology — The Art
of Handwriting Analysis" at
noon in the Oakland Center,
Lower Annex 1. Richard
Kokochak will also speak for the
Jewish Students Associa-
tion/Hillel at Oakland Com-
munity College on the Orchard
Ridge campus on March 8 at
noon.
On March 13, Hillel of Metro
Detroit in conjunction with the
Young Adult Division will pre-
sent the Disney movie Jungle-
book. The movie will begin at 1
p.m. at the Maple-Drake Jew-
ish Community Center.
Lawrence Technological Uni-
versity students interested in
playing pick-up games of bas-
ketball should contact Neil Got-
theil at 577-3459 for
information.

MSU Hillel
Plans Events

Hillel Jewish Student Center
at Michigan State University
announces the following pro-
grams.
On Feb. 18, there will be Con-

servative services at 6:15 p.m.
followed by Shabbat dinner at
7 p.m. There is a charge and
reservations are required.
On Feb. 20, Rabbi Elimelech
Silberberg, of Congregation
Bais Chabad in West Bloom-
field, will present a class at 5
p.m. titled "Being Moral in an
Immoral Society." Feb. 20-23
will be the annual United Jew-
ish Appeal campaign. Calls will
be made from the Michigan Ed-
ucational Association every day
from 6-9 p.m. Volunteers are
welcome.
On Feb. 24, the cultural and
religious committees will spon-
sor a megillah reading/Purim
party at 7:30 p.m. Costumes are
encouraged.

History Series
At Midrasha

On Feb. 23, the Midrasha Cen-
ter for Adult Jewish Learning
will present another in its se-
ries "Turning Points in Jewish
History," featuring guest schol-
ars from the New York-based
CLAL - the National Jewish
Center for Learning and Lead-
ership. The study session will
be held from 7:30-9 p.m. and
will be taught by Rabbi Tsvi
Blanchard. The subject will be
"The End of The World," an ex-
amination of the Hasmonean
dynasty and the Roman op-
pression that followed it. There
is a fee, and advance registra-
tion is required.
Rabbi Blanchard is a senior
teaching fellow at CLAL. He
has been a professor of philoso-
phy, specializing in the areas of
modern and contemporary phi-
losophy, the philosophy of sci-
ence, philosophical psychology
and philosophy of action, and
contemporary Jewish thought.
Adult learners who register
for this series will be expected
to read some study materials
in advance, so pre-registration
is required. This series is open
to any adult learner who is not
already studying with CLAL.
Future program dates,
speakers, and topics in Mid-
rasha's "Turning Points in Jew-
ish History" series are: April 7,
Rabbi Brad Hirschfield, "Power
in Powerlessness"; May 4, Dr.
Charles Raffel, "Dhimmi, or
People of the Book"; and June
8, Rabbi Reuven Kimelman,
"Crusades and their After-
math."
