Winter Conclave

Temple Emanu-El Temple
Youth will host this year's
Michigan State Temple Youth
Winter Conclave Jan. 28-30.
The theme of the conclave is
"Jews in Wonderland." Co-
chairpersons of winter conclave
are Barbara Leibson, Jessica
Bodzin and Dan Zimmerman.
The conclave is open to all
members of MSTY. The annu-
al dinner-dance will be held
Jan. 29; "Living Energy" disc
jockeys will provide the music.

The Shir Shalom Experience is
offering a b'nai mitzvah insti-
tute for parent(s) and their 6th
grader. This class will be held
the four Sundays in January
and again four Sundays in April
for those students getting ready
to prepare for bar/bat mitzvah.
The families will learn about
the real meaning behind the
mitzvah. For information, call

A Tu B'Shevat Family
Seder/Shabbat Dinner is sched-
uled for 6 p.m. on Jan. 14 pre-
sented by grade three students
and teachers in the Shir
Shalom Experience. Services

Friends of Refugees of Eastern
Europe will sponsor a Tu B'She-
vat Readiness Program for chil-
dren ages 5-11 from 2:30-4 p.m.
Jan. 16 at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Jewish Community
Center. Through skits and
games, the children will learn
about the importance of trees
and about the seven special
fruits for which Israel is famous.
The children will make glass-
covered terrariums and should
bring a shoe box and a glass
container or jar for the project.

Camp Weekend

Beth Shalom will hold its an-
nual Breakaway Weekend to
Camp Maas Jan. 28-30. Chil-
dren in grades 3-8 are invited.

Dr. Umansky
AT Midrasha

On Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m.,
Midrasha will present a text
study session featuring Dr.
Ellen Umansky of the New
York-based CLAL — the Na-
tional Jewish Center for Learn-
ing and Leadership. Dr.
Umansky's subject will be
"Monarchy and Prophecy."
There is a charge, and pre-reg-
istration is required.
Registrants will receive study
materials one to two weeks pri-
or to the program date.
Midrasha's CLAL series is open
to any adult learner who is not
already studying with CLAL
under the auspices of the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
