Dr. Bauer
Holocaust scholar Dr. Yehuda
Bauer will speak 7:30 p.m. Nov.
30 at the Maple-Drake Jewish
Community Center. The sub-
ject of his lecture, which is spon-
sored by the Holocaust
Memorial Center, will be "The
Impact of the Holocaust on Con-
temporary Society."
Dr. Bauer heads the Holo-
caust Studies Division at the
Institute of Contemporary Jew-
ry at the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem. He also is the aca-
demic chairman of the Vidal
Sasson International Center for
the Study of Anti-Semitism.
Dr. Bauer emigrated to
Palestine in 1939. He received
his education at the Hebrew
University and the University
of Walers in Cardiff. He served
in the Palmach in Israel and
fought in the Israeli War of In-
dependence. He lives on a kib-
butz in the Negev Desert.
Dr. Bauer's visit to the De-
troit area was arranged in co-
operation with the American
Friends of the Hebrew Univer-
sity; the Wayne State Univer-
sity Departments of History
and German and Slavic Lan-
guages and Literatures; and
Wayne State University's
Cohn-Haddow Center for Ju-
daic Studies.
Admission to the lecture is
free.

Marcy Feldman, president of
Resettlement Service, will ad-
dress a gathering on behalf of
the Allied Jewish Campaign 6

Women's Division, the event
will be at the home of Jane Ser-
man. The meeting is for con-
tributors of $100 or more to the
1994 Campaign.
Lynn Portnoy, owner of the
women's clothing store in to
Royal Oak that bears her name,
will demonstrate how working
women can travel using only
one suitcase.
Ms. Feldman, who will dis-
cuss the 1994 Campaign and
how it assists Jewish agencies
that work with newcomers, is
a national board member of the
Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society
(BIAS) and sits on Federation's
board of governors.

Machon L'Torah will host a pre-
Chanukah program for new im-
migrants 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at
Machon. Rabbi Avraham Ja-
cobovitz will lead a discussion
translated by Roman Lundin ti-
tled "Looking at Judaism from
the Modern Perspective." The
event will include a raffle of two
round-trip tickets to New York.
