on. Judaism, says Sherry
Glaser, is patriarchal and "I
felt left out."
She is part of another
family now, with husband
and child. When she packed
her bags for a new life, Ms.
Glaser included some of the
baggage of the past. "Part of
the legacy from being raised
by someone with mental il-
lness is you're afraid to have
fun," says Ms. Glaser.
"My husband had to teach
me how to have that fun."
He has done well. "Before I
met him, I woke up in the
morning with a combination
of despression and fear."
Now, says Ms. Glaser, she
awakens to the glory of life.
In a sense, she had been
sleepwalking through life
before, even when she found
success as co-founder with

"politically correct female
comedy troupe."
"At that time of perform-
ing I really had no idea of
who I was. I hadn't
discovered myself."
With Family Secrets, her
life is now out in the open,
for audiences —and Sherry
Glaser herself.
And since her show is de-
scribed as a comedy, what
could be better than a happy
ending? "My mother is well
now," says a proud
daughter. "She just
graduated from law school."
In a sense, Sherry Glaser
has graduated too, to a new
understanding of self. What
has the Family Secrets star
found after years of secrets
bottled up inside? "My
heart," she says simply and
sweetly. ❑
