When she packed her bags for a new life, Ms. Glaser included some of the baggage of the past. "Part of the legacy from being raised by someone with mental il- lness is you're afraid to have fun," says Ms. Glaser. "My husband had to teach me how to have that fun." He has done well. "Before I met him, I woke up in the morning with a combination of despression and fear." Now, says Ms. Glaser, she awakens to the glory of life. In a sense, she had been sleepwalking through life before, even when she found success as co-founder with Mo Gaffney of Hot Flashes, a Cultural Judaism provided a balm and a sense of bonding. With Family Secrets, her life is now out in the open, for audiences —and Sherry Glaser herself. And since her show is de- scribed as a comedy, what could be better than a happy ending? "My mother is well now," says a proud daughter. "She just graduated from law school." In a sense, Sherry Glaser has graduated too, to a new understanding of self. What has the Family Secrets star found after years of secrets bottled up inside?
