conducted by Veterinarian Ser-
vice Marketing, nearly 2 million
dogs and 2.3 million cats are
registered in Michigan. Na-
tionwide, there are 52 million
dogs and 57 million cats.
In the Midwest states of
Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and
Wisconsin, 56.5 percent of all
households own cats or dogs.
And according to the American
Veterinary Medical Association,
pet owners in 1991 spent an es-
timated $4.56 billion on health
services for dogs and $2.3 bil-
lion on services for cats.
