Rabbi Reuven Hammer, a
leader in the establishment of
the Masorti/Conservative Move-
ment in Israel, will present an
update on the work of the
Masorti Movement at a recep-
tion in the home of David and
Ilene Chait of West Bloomfield
Nov. 8.
Rabbi Hammer, who re-
ceived his ordination from the
Jewish Theological Seminary
of America and a Ph.D. in ed-
ucation from Northwestern
University, served congrega-
tions in Colorado, Ohio, and Illi-
nois, prior to moving to Israel
with his family in 1973.
He has been director, Jewish
Theological Seminary in Jeru-
salem and director, Seminary
of Judaic Studies. He is cur-
rently professor at Oranim
Seminary and educational con-
sultant to the Israel Ministry of
Education.
This event also will feature
Mr. Herschel Blumberg, pres-
ident of the Foundation for
Conservative Judaism in Israel.
