The Hillel Foundation at the
University of Michigan will pre-
sent author Chaim Potok 7:30
p.m. November 10 at Hillel.
Mr. Potok's works extend
from the world of Orthodox
Jews to the philosophy of Kant,
from the heart of Brooklyn to
the depths of Korea. He is the
author of 11 novels, three
plays, and one work of non-
fiction.
Mr. Potok's background is re-
flected in the range of his liter-
ary accomplishments. As editor
in chief of the Jewish Publica-
tion Society from 1966 to the
late 1970s, he was responsible
for the publication of The Jew-
ish Catalog, a contemporary
manual on Jewish life.

speak on "The Response of the
American Jewish Community
to German Jewish Refugees
During World War II" at a com-
munity luncheon at 12:15 p.m.
Hillel will sponsor the first
annual dinner to support pro-
grams and operations 5:30 p.m.
Oct. 17 at Hillel. This dinner
will honor executive director Dr.
Mark Finkelstein for five years
of service. The speaker will be
Rabbi Bill Rudolph, Association
international director of B'nai
B'rith Hillel Foundations and
former MSU Hillel director. For

The Hillel Foundation at the
University of Michigan, Ann Ar-
bor, will host the following
events.
Israeli dancing will take
place 8-10 p.m. Oct. 10 at Hillel.
There is a charge.
Shulchan Ivrit will meet in
the Tap Room of the Michigan
Union at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11.
Israel Information Day will
be Oct. 12. The representative
will answer questions and pro-
vide information about the sum-
mer programs in Israel, kibbutz

Beth Emeth
Hebrew Class

Temple Beth Emeth of Ann Ar-
bor will offer a class called "He-
brew-In-A-Day." It will be held
Oct. 31 at the Jewish Commu-
nity Center, 2935 Birch Hollow
Drive, Ann Arbor.
This course is designed to
give students the essence of He-
brew in one comprehensive ses-
sion. At the end of the day,
participants should be able to
read Hebrew phonetically and
have a 180-word vocabulary.
The class will begin at 9 a.m.,
end at 4 p.m. and will include a
break for lunch. Advanced reg-
istration is required. The cost
includes materials and lunch.

Hebrew was a cardinal re-
quirement for a degree.

Deadlines

The normal deadline for
local news and publicity
items is noon Thursday,
eight days prior to issue
date. The deadline for
birth announcements is 10
a.m. Monday, four days
prior to issue date; out-of-
town obituaries, 10 a.m.
Tuesday, three days prior
to issue date.
All material must
be typewritten, double-
spaced, on 8 1/2 x 11 pa-
per and include the name
and daytime telephone
number of the sender.
