roadway dancer-cum-
comic Rita Rudner
has a full dance card
these days.
The paperback version of
her comedic bare-all Naked
Beneath My Clothes has just
been issued by Penguin
Books and the tape of
Rudner's Peter's Friends, in
which she starred and co-
wrote, is winding up for a
successful run at video
stores.
Rita's friends are many in
the business, but she re-
serves the title of "best
friend" for her husband,
Martin Bergman, a comedy
producer.
What the two produce best
is a good family life. "We're
funny in a cynical kind of
way," she says with a sly
edge in her voice.
When not sharing
household chores, they share
a quirky sense of comedy,
which served them well
working on the script
together for Peter's

Michael Elkin is the enter-
tainment editor of the Jewish
Exponent in Philadelphia.

Friends, last year's sleeper hit
about the bed and bored set,
a gathering of friends under
one riotous roof in an English
mansion.
Witty and wily, Peter's
Friends proved to be Holly-
wood-friendly, drawing atten-
tion to Ms. Rudner as a ma-
jor movie draw.
But she is not about to get
too entangled in Hollywood
and Vine to the detriment of
her other work. Committed
to making more movies —
"Martin and I have three
scripts at studios, and one
with an indepenent pro-
ducer" — Rira Rudner won't
abandon her solo stand-up
work.
Indeed, the stand-up com-
edian is a standout in the
field, capturing acclaim and
kudos as well as contracts
for her own series and spe-
cials. At this stage of her
life, Ms.Rudner may very
well be able to have and
handle it all.
She takes to the area stage
performing with Dennis
Miller, a "kissing cousin" of
a sardonic comic, at Trump
Plaza in Atlantic City.
