GOOD WAITRESS
DEPT. . . . Paige Stocchi .. .
evenings at Maria's of
Southfield on Greenfield
south of 11 Mile . a big
smile, lots of personality and
the graciousness you want in
a server.
PEANUT BUTTER and
banana slices were the thing
for many sandwich lovers to
remember . . . Now young
man Mitch and dad Marty
Benson at American Bulk
Food in West Bloomfield
Plaza have come out with a
sugar-free and fat-free Peanut
Butter Blast Shimmery ice
cream.
REUNION DEPT. . . . 461/2
year get-together by 1947
January and June grads of
Central High is Oct. 10 at
Novi Hilton . . . Call Marilyn
Klafer Gordon, 357-2761; or
Marilyn Wilbur Kosins,
788-1142 . . . Ferndale High
class of 1978 15-year hello
again is Sept. 11 at Botsford
Inn . . . Committee has Diane
Winton, Judy Alloy, Francyn
Chomic (693-4807) and Mary
Jean McRoberts (652-3080)
. . . Correct phone number of
Rita Scaglione Pavlick for the
Commerce High 1930s get-
together is 777-7657.

IT WAS MORE than luck
that made Southfield's recent
first annual "Waltz In The
Garden" a big success . . . But
city officials and community
relations head Nimrod Rosen-
thal had to be ecstatic about
the weather turnabout.
The day was a scorching 96
degrees or so with a high
humidity . . . and that even-
ing, tornado and thunder
storm warnings hit Oakland
County.
Then the night cooled off in-
to a beautiful calm . . . The
only noise came from the 350
to 400-pound ice carving that
fell from the buffet table as
about 300 attendees
thoroughly enjoyed one of the
best shindigs yet put on by
Southfield . . . It was a lovely
black tie optional party at
Plum Hollow Country Club
overlooking the golf course
and will now undoubtedly be
a regular yearly affair, sort of
as a prelude to the Southfield
Gold Cup Polo Competition
. . . Its 5th Annual will be
held tomorrow with booths
open 1 p.m., and the game 2
p.m. at Duns Scotus, Nine
Mile and Evergreen.
Master chef Leopold
Schaeli, one of the best, was
a guest with wife Marge .. .
and is having fun these days
while getting paid for it .. .
He's an instructor at
Schoolcraft College's very fine
culinary program . . . Leopold
has been a chef about 50
years .. .

. . . Sam Oaks, with wife
County Commissioner Lillian
Jaffe-Oaks, remembering be-
ing asked to join Plum Hollow
for $1400 . . . 45 years ago .. .
Today, $25,000 might get you
in the door . . . Dancers put on
waltzing exhibitions to
strains by Dearborn Sym-
phony members . . . in a tru-
ly Southfield winner event.
HOW'S THIS FOR an
answer? . . . Waitress at
Ristorante di Modesta on
Northwestern was asked if
they had any margarine and
her reply, "Sometimes we do
and sometimes we don't. The
Ram's Horn has it all the
time" . . . Note to owner
Manuel Chavez, don't let your
servers talk like this, and do
something about those
waitresses with long hair .. .
especially when they push
their hair back while serving
food . . . The minestrone is
more a potato soup but the
pasta fagioli bean and tomato
soup is one of the best.
THIRD ANNUAL
BOODLES Golf Outing to
benefit Children's Hospital is
Aug. 9 at Scalawags Country
Club on Fairchild in Chester-
field Township . . . $115 in-
cludes 18 holes, electric cart,
gold shirt, lunch buffet, hole
contests (blindfolded, etc.),
team picture and dinner buf-
fet with open bar . . . Dinner
and drinks only is $40 . . . En-
trees must be in by Aug. 2,
open to both men and women
. . . Boodles Restaurant is on
11 Mile Rd. in Madison
Heights.
IT'S THE All-American
dream of every youngster .. .
to sit in the dugout with their
favorite baseball players .. .
And the big thrill is coming
to nervous Jack Feinberg,
7%-year-old son of Gary and
Shelli Feinberg . . . The card
he filled out at Tiger Stadium
during a kids day at the ol'
ballpark had his name on it
. . . This Monday night with
the Minnesota Twins in town,
young Jack will be honorary
celebrity bat boy . . . and
round bases after the game in
the uniform he also gets plus
a baseball and bat . . . You bet
Jack is excited!
LOOKING BACK ON
COLUMNS OF Yester-
years .. .
OCT. 1, 1976 . . . "Barrister
Bernard Kaufman, on the
ticket for Oakland County
Circuit Court, tells of the traf-
fic cop in West Bloomfield
stopping a woman driver
recently, going 65 miles an
hour down Orchard Lake Rd.
. . . He asked what speedway
she thought she was on .. .
and the lady answered, 'My
brakes don't work and I'm
hurrying to get home before
I have an accident!' "
