men in Athletics" event at
the Ritz Carlton Hotel. More
than 350 patrons attended
the event, which featured
Cass Technical High School
cheerleaders and an ap-
pearance by Governor
John Engler. Michelle
Kaufman, Detroit Free
Press sports writer, welcom-
ed the crowd.
The honorees included:
Merrily Dean Baker, Mich-
igan State University
athletic director; Kathy
Fisher, coach for physically-
challenged athletes; Brenda
Gatlin, assistant principal
of Cass Technical High
School; Dolly Niemic Kon-
winski, former professional
baseball player; and Myrna
Partich, co-owner of the
Workout Company and na-
tional fitness authority.
Florine Mark, president
of WW Group Inc. and a
MWF trustee, introduced
Ms. Partrich, who serves on
the President's and Gover-
nor's councils on physical
fitness and sports. The
