MAIL DEPT . . . from
Lynn Levitin . . . "I thought
you should know about a
wonderful waitress at Silver-
man's Cafe- on Orchard Lake
Road near 14 Mile. I was
there for lunch with my
mother, Suzy Darmon, when
my daughter Alexandra, 16
months, started crying and
fussing non-stop. There was
nothing we could do to calm
down Alexandra, who is
usually a very quiet and laid-
back baby."
"I decided to go in the car
with her and at least let my
mother (and other customers)
enjoy a quiet lunch, when our
waitress, Lisa Pratt, came
back with our omelettes. She
took Alexandra in her arms
and immediately quieted her
down. She then took my
daughter with her to see
other customers and insisted
on holding her and keeping
her busy until we finished our
lunch, which we were able to
do.
"Not only were the omelet-
tes wonderful, but so was
Lisa. And Alexandra loved
every minute of it. Lisa sure
gets the vote of me, my
mother and a lot of Silver-
man's customers for your
`Good Waitress Dept.' " (Lisa
works Saturday and Sunday
at the Silverman's in Kmart
Shopping Center.)
From David Levine . . .
"Back in the '30s and early
'40s there was a group of
young men who literally grew
up together from age 9 and
younger.
"We all lived within a few
blocks of each other around
12th Street on Gladstorie,
Hazelwood, Taylor, Blaine,
Philadelphia, Pingree, etc.
There were 13 of us and
hardly a day went by that we
did not see each other. We
were very close.
"In the mid-1930s we
formed a club called the
Meteors. We were an athletic
and social club. We met every
Friday night and then went to
the girls' club meetings. We
had jackets with a big 'M' and
we wore them proudly. (I still
have mine.) The Meteors en-
joyed an excellent reputation
socially and athletically. Dur-
ing that time there were
other clubs, but the Meteors
were different.
"Mothers would never
worry about their daughters
when they were out with
Meteors. We had a great time.
We went to Northern, Central
and Cass. Some went on to
college at Wayne, Lawrence
Institute, Michigan State and
University of Michigan.
"In the early '40s, we went
to serve our country all over
the world. We stayed in touch
as best we could.
"Those who returned tried
to get back together as before,
but within a short time we
drifted apart.
"There are still five of the
original 13 Meteors living in
this area. In April 1992, we
decided to have lunch once a
month at Ginopolis.' We look
forward to each Meteor
meeting as if it was Friday
night in the 1930s down in
Sol Carr's basement.
"The Meteors in this area
are Ben Fox, Morrey Finke,
Sol Carr, Dave Levine and
Ben Marks. Manny Ravet
now lives in San Diego but
comes in once a month so we
arrange the meeting when he
is here. We have been Meteors
for over 60 years."
IT'S BACK in her own
business again . .. as Marilyn
Berman Habsburg returns to
the business world . . . After
4 1/2 years as director of cor-
porate affairs for local Weight
Watchers, Marilyn, with her
almost 20 years in public rela-
tions, marketing, etc., has
formed Marilyn Berman
Habsburg, Communications
Consultants, in West Bloom-
field.
