STORY MAKING the
rounds is of the Jewish and
non-Jewish gentlemen who
had grown up together since
boyhood and were inseparable
. . . When they got older, the
Jewish fellow joined an all-
Jewish country club . . . The
non-Jew was devastated .. .
"How could you do this to me?
What's going to happen now
to our being together all the
time?" . . . "Don't worry," said
the Jewish young man.
"You'll go as my guest. If
anybody asks what you do for
a living, tell them you're a
talismaker."
For quite a while the Jew
and non-Jew went together to
the country club . . . The
members got to know the
guest so much that they ask-
ed him to join . . . One day
soon after in the steam room
a member remarked, "I don't
recall seeing you before" .. .
"I'm a new member," said the
non-Jew . . . "Oh, glad to have
you. What do you do for a liv-
ing" . . . "I'm a talismaker,"
quickly answered the non-
Jew . . . The member was
elated . . . "Since I was bar
mitzvah, I've always wanted
to meet a talismaker. You
know that Hebrew lettering
on the collar and sometimes
on the sides, tell me, what do
they say?" ... "I don't know,"
replied the non-Jew, "I just
make the sleeves."
LOOKING BACK on col-
umns of yesteryears .. .
NOV. 28, 1980 . . . "Billy
Fields (Felsenfeld), teacher
and TV commercial per-
sonality (J.L. Hudson's
Scrooge, Blue Cross-Blue
Shield, etc.), brought wife
Shirley black coffee as a good-
husband gesture on Mother's
Day . . . even though they'll
be married 29 years . . . She
always drinks it with cream
and sugar."

cholesterol. It's a fact, a high
blood cholesterol level sub-
stantially increases your
chances of developing heart
disease. By cutting down on
fatty, rich foods, you can do
yourself a big favor. You could
lower your blood cholesterol
