"I was 13 in 1940 and work-
ed at Rosenbaum's Drugstore
on Twelfth and Glynn Court
for 15 cents an hour," writes
Tom. "After getting myself a
couple months' experience I
asked Mr. Forman if he need-
ed an experienced boy. He
hired me for 25 cents an hour
and made me a mighty hap-
py kid. I worked for Phil For-
man until being drafted in
1945.
"Cokes were a nickel, six
for a quarter, double dip ice .
cream was a nickel, banana
splits (whole bananas) were
20 cents, cigarettes 14 cents
a pack, two for 27 cents.
There were three drugstores
within two blocks: Rosen-
baum's, Phillip's and Cornell
Drugstore, which was on the
corner of 12th and Coll-
ingwood."

private investigator with his
own detective agency.
