UJA Mission

Plans Laid

Applications are being ac-
cepted for the Aug. 2-12
United Jewish Appeal Family
Mission to Israel. Families in-
terested in learning more
about the trip, which is an op-
portunity for families to learn
about their Jewish heritage
together, are invited to attend
a gathering 7:30 p.m. June 10
at the home of Michael and
Marcy Feldman, national
chairmen of the mission.
The mission, which is open
to three generations —
parents, children and grand-
children — offers a complete
program for families with
children age 7 and older and
first-time Israel visitors and
for veteran travelers. Par-
ticipants will meet the people
of Israel, encounter the issues
and celebrate together the
modern miracle of homecom-
ing for Jews from throughout
the world.
Highlights include floating
on the Jordan River and the
Dead Sea, sightseeing in
Tiberias, dinner on a cruise
on Lake Kinneret and hiking
Ein Gedi. Families also will
plant trees in one of Israel's
national forests.
Participants will go on an
archaeological dig, ascend the
Golan Heights and meet with
settlers. They also will visit
Old Jaffa, the Western Wall
and an Israel Defense Force
base and join in a special
bar/bat mitzvah ceremony at
Masada.
• Mission-goers will visit
with Israeli children at a
Youth Aliyah village and
meet immigrants from the
former Soviet Union and
Ethiopia in absorption cen-
ters, where they are learning
Hebrew and receiving job
retraining.
Adults will meet with
Israeli officials on security in
Israel and the prospects for
peace. Youth programs will be
offered, and a counselor will
supervise separate activities
for children. Parents will have
time to spend on their own
and with their children.
Children on the mission
may adopt Israeli pen pals
this summer and meet with
their new friends during the
trip. All participants will be
treated to home hospitality by
Israeli families.
Based in Jerusalem, the
mission accommodations will
be in five-star hotels, and
travel will be on air-
conditioned buses.
For information about the
Aug. 2-12 UJA Family Mis-
sion or the June 10 meeting,
call Leonard Milstone,
642-4260; or Michael or
Marcy Feldman, 569-3775.
