dith said. "This monologue is
about what it's like to be
handicapped and getting in
touch with someone's very
different experience."
Rob Leider, West Bloom-
field High School's drama in-
structor, enjoys Theatre
Week because of the oppor-
tunities it presents his stu-
dents.

"The kids tackle less main-
stream entertainment, pro-
ductions. that work well in a
small setting, but not on a
large stage," he said. "The
students are performing with
their audience literally at

"It's also their opportunity

Developer Opens
Huge Israeli Mall

Jerusalem (JTA) — Mon-
treal developer David
Azrieli has unveiled his
latest venture, the $85 mill-
ion Canion Yerushalayim
shopping mall outside
Jerusalem.
Located in the Manhat
suburb, near the new soccer
stadium, the 100,000-sq.-foot
mall has everything a
shopper could possibly want:
180 stores, eight movie
theaters, 16 kosher fast-food
outlets, four restaurants, six
cafes and ice-cream parlors
—plus a carwash and a
babysitting service.
The icing on the cake is
1,800 free underground
parking spots.
The mall is open from 9
a.m. until 9 p.m. Mondays
through Thursdays (the
eateries and movie theaters
until midnight), Fridays un-
til an hour before the
Sabbath and Saturdays
following the Sabbath.
Mr. Azrieli, president of
Canpro Investments (Canit
Ltd. in Israel), is no stranger
to the "mailing" of Israel.
He has been dubbed "the
father of the Israeli shopping

mall," having opened the
first one, Canion Ayalon in
Tel Aviv's Ramat Gan
suburb, in 1982.
He then opened the Canion
Beersheva and will next
open one in Haifa. Canit also
outbid the competition for
Tel Aviv's Shalom Center,
which will be Israel's largest
commercial undertaking
ever.
Even the term "canion"
has become an Azrieli ge-
neric, the combination of the
Hebrew verbs for parking
and shopping.
Mr. Azrieli's love for Israel
and his conducting business
here is no accident. After ar-
riving here from Poland, he
took part in the 1948 War of
Independence as a squad
leader in the famed Seventh
Brigade, which sustained
heavy casualties during the
battle at Latroun Fortress.
Today, he is a successful
businessman in Canada and
Israel, the builder and pro-
prietor of several malls in
Quebec, Ontario and the
United States.
But the Canion
Yerushalayim is arguably
