Groups Talk
About Merger

New York (JTA) — The pos-
sibility of merging the
American Jewish Com-
mittee and the American
Jewish Congress has been
the topic of high-level talks
between the two Jewish
defense organizations.
The talks have been con-
structive but not conclusive,
according to participants on
both sides.
"While we have made good
progress, it would be pre-
mature to draw any conclu-
sions," said Henry Sieg-man.
Mr. Siegman is due to retire
at the end of this year as ex-
ecutive director of the
AJCongress.
Both sides hope to be able
to present an initial proposal
to their boards by June.
The merger discussions
follows. years in which the
two organizations, originally
fierce ideological rivals,
have become increasingly
strapped for funds and simi-
lar in purpose. The AJCom-
mittee was founded in 1906
and the AJCongress, in
1922.
Alfred Moses, president of
the AJCommittee, said that
if the merger goes through,
"there should be some sav-
ings of administrative
costs."
But the real benefit, he
said, would be "to have a
larger, more influential
organization."
The merged organization
"would be the dominant
agency acting interna-
tionally in the field of Jew-
ish concerns, support for
Israel, human relations at
home and Jewish continui-
ty."

M

Viscosupplementation is simply the injection of a lubricating
gel (Hyaluronan) directly into the joints (ankles, knees and
shoulders) and it works with long lasting results and no side
effects that non-steroidals (NSAIDS) can produce. Today
thousands of people in Canada, Europe, and Japan enjoy
the absence of pain, and regained use of their joints from
this new technology — and so can YOU!

"Why must I go on vacation to receive viscosupplementation?"

Currently the FDA is on vacation themselves and it could be
years and irreparable damage to your joints by the time this
technology winds its way through the miles of bureaucratic
red tape required for approval here in the United States.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUFFER ANY LONGER!

U.N. Soldier
Killed In Lebanon

Tel Aviv (JTA) — A
Nepalese United Nations
soldier serving in Lebanon
was killed and another seri-
ous wounded Feb. 23 when
they were caught in an
exchange of fire between
Hezbollah guerrillas and
South Lebanon Army
gunners on the northern
edge of the Israeli-controlled
security zone.
U.N. officials complained
that the SLA, allied with
Israeli forces, had
deliberately shelled the U.N.
post. But a senior Israeli
army officer stressed that
the U.N. position had been
hit during an exchange of
fire and it was not certain
from which side the shell
had come.
